Former President George W. Bush is going on a three-day mountain bike ride in Texas with soldiers who were wounded in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan to help raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. He appeared with George Stephanopoulos this morning to promote the cause and seemed to be in a great mood as he playfully joked you havent lost a step Stephanopoulos.
Bush tried to keep the interview focused on his bike ride, even laughing how the wounded soldier sitting next to him with one leg is faster than he is on a bicycle. Yet Stephanopoulos couldnt resist the opportunity to get Bush to weigh in on some of the news of the day. Regarding the announced White House personnel changes, Stephanopoulos asked Bush what his thoughts were about Leon Panetta and David Petraeus. Bus responded that both of them are good men before launching into this very funny exchange:
Bush: Is this gossip or truth?
Bush: Just because youre reporting it, as you might recall, doesnt necessarily mean . . . (laughter)
Stephanopoulos: Im fairly confident on this one, this morning Mr. President.
Stephanopoulos tried to get Bushs opinion on high gas prices too, but Bush laughed at his persistence and instead reiterated his desire to stay out of the daily dialogue. In the final moments, Bush showed genuine admiration for the wounded warrior sitting next to him as he embraced him. Overall, a surprisingly touching and humorous appearance from the former President.
I really enjoyed W this morning.
A breath of fresh air.
I miss a CIC that cares about our troops and military, and who ACTUALLY LIKES OUR COUNTRY.
I loved it when Steph asked him about the gas prices... Bush says (something like) ‘I hope Americans learn about supply and demand...When you cut off supply sources (i.e. Gulf) prices go up.’
Then he realized he was being critical of The Won and shut up. LOL!
It is an unusual way to talk, especially when asked about a group, but it preserves each of the lost as an individual.
It is telling that President Bush, even when casually sitting around, makes that effort. It shows his reflexive respect for the people in uniform. Can you imagine our current Commander in Chief, with his lazy and imprecise rhetorical constructions, making such an effort?
Yes, that was good. Obama doesn’t understand these very basic facts of existence, and we are paying the price. I am waiting for a reporter to ask BO, to his face in a live interview, why we are providing Brazil with money for offshore oil drilling but forbidding American companies to drill off shore for American oil. I realize it will be a long wait. But someone might think to ask Salazar.
He could take 3 to the golf course with him for a foursome.
You can see him on Bret Baer’s show tonight .
I do, too, Lydia.
Some will be on bikes, others will be behind in cars. I can’t believe there won’t be armor around him somewhere.
he has given that job to his wife
Remember when the MSM said 7% unemployment was virtually full employment? That was when the sinkmaster had his recession.
Me too
