Past statements and actions show Donald Trump wrong choice for gun owners
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 23 April, 2011 | David Codrea

One major area of scrutiny missing from much of the media-driven discussion on Donald Trump’s potential presidential bid is where he stands on the gun issue.

We know he’s not against the concept of guns in private hands under controlled circumstances—Trump is one of the few elite recipients of a New York City concealed carry permit. But where does he stand on other aspects of the right to keep and bear arms that will interest gun owners looking for candidates worthy of their support?

Trump has a record on the issue left from the last time he was thinking about tossing his hat into the ring. From “On the Issues”:

* Dems and Reps are both wrong on guns. (Jul 2000) * For assault weapon ban, waiting period, & background check. (Jul 2000)

The site provides full quotes to explain the summary positions:

Dems and Reps are both wrong on guns

It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions.

For assault weapon ban, waiting period, & background check

I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.

The more I learn of Donald Trump, the more of an intellectual lightweight he appears. I am glad that he is willing to take on the media, but I would not want him as president.

I'm more interested in who the right choice is for all conservative issues who will constantly ask "Why is this President hiding his birth certificate and what may he be hiding from the American people?".

There's no way I will not vote for whoever is Obama's opposition in the general election.

That anybody is giving any credence at all to the idea that Trump is the answer is appalling!

He is NOT a conservative Republican. Nor, is he a viable candidate for POTUS.

End of story.

So go elect Obama, Pawlenty, Mitt Romney or Huckster. I am sure they will be so much better on guns and the Second Amendment. Sarah Palin ain’t running and Bachmann can’t raise the necessary funds

so he taking the birther issue head to head. that doesn’t mean that he should be president. i’m glad he is doing what he is, but look at him and his record. he isn’t our man by a long shot.

talk about drinking the cool-aid! all he has is name recognition.

where does he stand on the issues?

Trump is the only one who scares Obama and his thug advisors such as Axelrod and poofter Plouffe
Trump is the last candidate they want to run against
I promise you the Obama team is spending tons of time and energy trying to dig up dirt on Trump

The media loves to prop up (cover) RINOs that can’t win. And can’t get far enough away from the Duncan Hunters.

sarah palin is the candidate they don’t want us to run. Trump is no conservative, doesnn’t dig gun rights, made his money off the backs of the poor (and the dems will CLOBBER us with that one!), has said some racially ‘insensitive things “They don’t look like indians to me”, and will be branded the worst kind of racist.
intellectually he doesn’t have it, either. Palin has more gravitas. if you want a conservative, support one. donn’t be a lemming and rush behind the first one with a name recognition and a mouth.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I wish we could take the best qualities of Trump and Palin and meld them.

Palin’s experience has been as a hockey mom, school board member, mayor of a small city, governor for 2 years, and, now, TV personality. That's a bit thin.

Sarah Palin isn’t running. You can like her to death but she isn’t running. Check back with me in 6 months when this turns out to be true

We are not wasting time. Hopefully he is doing the heavy lifting nobody else is willing to do. I think he is adding a lot to the process. I think it is possible he is taking a hit for the team. He knows this will cost him big money and alienate the Hollywood set, but still is going for it. I suspect he will drop out later and support a more viable candidate.

Plus I don’t blame Sarah Palin for not running. The liberals and their media have run her and her daughters through a meat grinder. At a certain point a human being has had enough

Exactly right. They set up a "Tails I win, heads you lose" situation, exactly what they did with McCain and Obama in 2008. When we run a real conservative, we win. We have a small, but significant part of the overall media now. The "Progressive" MSM can not longer dominate and demonize without opposition.

As compared to a street organizer for acorn, state senator that voted present, a two year senator and now a semi-pro golfer that spends time flying in Air Force One from vacations to campaign events. That's a bit thin.

'The Donald's'(/s) stance on the 2A is pretty clear to me....
Guns for Billionaires, but not for Hundredaires

(Or more simply put....)

Guns for ME, but not for Yee.

Ergo 'Donny' -- Bite me.

Neither do I. As the cover begins to fall away, exposing Trump's earlier policy positions, the more people will realize he's simply a flip-flopping noisemaker.
