Monumental Attack Against Texas Conservatives
The Patriot Statesman ^ | 4-22-2011 | Donna Garner

The House Redistricting Committee map plan (a.k.a., Solomons’ map) is a monumental attack that is meant to silence conservative voices in Texas for the next ten years to come.

The Solomons’ map eviscerates the conservatives, has nine pairings, and seven open seats. None of the House Redistricting Committee maps matches the message that conservative voters so clearly sent on Nov. 2010.

Even though Texans voted into office a supermajority of Republicans (mostly conservatives), the House Redistricting Committee map actually shapes some districts so that Democrats could more readily win rather than conservative Republicans who are in the Legislature right now.

Ironically enough, Rep. Burt Solomons (chair of the House Redistricting Committee) is a Republican appointed by Republican Speaker Joe Straus!

Please listen to this brief video in which Rep. Wayne Christian interviews Joe Nixon and his fellow attorney Trey Trainor. Nixon and Trainor are considered to be the best redistricting map experts in the entire United states and are authorities on the Voting Rights Act (VRA).

Nixon was the former Texas legislator who authored the tort reform legislation that has led to Texas being ranked #1 as the most business-friendly state in the United States.

This will be a fight to the death if that is necessary. Texas will not be subjected. The idiots that talk about “demographics” fail to take into account that not all Hispanics are lefties. Texas will never be a “blue state” again, it is so against the grain. There will be a war first....

I absolutely understand that. I was heavily involved in helping to elect Blake Farenthold to oust 14-term incumbent Solomon Ortiz from the 27th congressional district. We beat Ortiz from in his home county (for the first time ever) with the help of lots of Hispanic voters who were fed up with the Ortiz machine. We even beat Ortiz' son in his bid to win a 4th term in the legistature in district 33, the least Republican friendly district in Nueces county.

Due to population growth in the triangle between Houston, DFW, Austin, and San Antonio, areas in the rest of the state are losing representation. The number of house seats in the legislature is fixed at 150, so counties that did not keep up in population growth necessarily will lose representation. Unfortunately Nueces county has barely grown in population, so it won't be able to have 3 representatives. It qualified for 2.4 house districts after the 2000 census, and just 2.03 districts this year. We were able to get our third seat in 2002 by sharing district 32 with some coastal counties to the north.

Due to the fact that former legislator (late 1980's early 1990's) Todd Hunter won back district 32 for the Republicans in 2008, and he lives in Nueces county, there was no way his district was going to be eliminated since he is the most senior house member from the coastal bend region. District 33 was eliminated from Nueces county, so Connie Scott (R-TXH34) and Raul Torres (R-TXH33) will be paired in the same district next year. We knew going into the 2010 elections before the census was even taken that we would most likely be losing a seat after the 2010 census. Unfortunatlely it probably means Raul Torres won't be returning to the legislature in 2013.

The Ortiz family is done. Redistricting the Nueces County Commission isn’t going to pleasant for Oscar Ortiz, Solomon Sr.’s brother. I’ve seen maps of the new congressional district. It goes no further south than Kleberg county and takes in areas that are currently part of Ron Paul’s district.

Remember all the Republicans that voted for Strauss again as speaker???

This is the “you get what you voted for” result...

This, “Let’s not make any waves...” mentality will be the undoing of the conservative movement...

Just because people say they are Republican does not mean much. Judge them by there fruits..We have 2 Democrats that changes to be republican to save there skin. Does anyone think they believe in our platform?

We have 1 Harris County Rep that voted Against the sonogram bill...We have a wide variety of “Republican” in the Texas house.

Some are Republicans out of necessity, and many are republicans because it benefits them..

I think many are there for there own personal power and glory and we the people are a necessary evil..

Anybody like Straus who thinks they can make a deal with the Dems and get a fair shake are lying or too stupid to see what Dems really are.

Dems lie, cheat and steal elections as a standard practice.

Screw them.

Republicans did a great job of playing the redistricting thing the last time and the Dems squealed terribly because they got snookered.

You only win over the Dems when you show strength. Just like dealing with all Commies.

Both Rush and Lago are on 1360. I usually don't tune into talk radio early enough in the morning to catch Lago.

Yep ... 1360 you are so correct (my Bad Bad Bad)

I never change my channel ... the radio just runs in the background 24/7 even in the truck ...

I enjoy Lago early in the morning ... coffee just wouldn’t taste the same without him.
