My impression of Iowa judges (based on the cases I've read) is that they are hostile to gun rights. Not to say a suit would be a waste, but anybody undertaking it should do so with the thought that they will lose in the end.
There are no quantifiable money damages, and the names folks are now roughly on parity with law enforcement (believed to have a gun at home, address is findable).
Looking farther ahead, as others have pointed out, this publication makes an argument that the right to keep and bear arms should not be done on a permit basis. The state of Iowa should adopt Vermont/Alaska/Arizona style law. Concealed carry is allowed without any permit.
The reason is that this list will have targeted his house by exception ~ increasing the chance he would be robbed many times over ~ with the fact he had been robbed being a reality.
Also, in case Jared and his queer little buddies tried a retaliatory law suit, I think you could count on getting a sympathetic jury ~ particularly since the list of permit holders is no where near the number of gun owners in that town.
I looked through the list and none of my known cousins are on it.
Where do THEY live?
