Republican Pete Hoekstra, who served 18 years in the U.S. House, tells Newsmax that Donald Trump is the only potential GOP presidential candidate who has captured the imagination and says a Trump candidacy could resonate very, very well with the voters in 2012.
The veteran lawmaker, who was the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, also asserts it is just a matter of time before Islamic extremists attempt another attack in the U.S., charges that the Obama administrations policy on oil drilling must share the blame for soaring gasoline prices, and says the country cant survive another four years of Obamas failed leadership.
Hoekstra was first elected to represent Michigans 2nd Congressional District in 1992. He did not run for re-election in 2010 and instead mounted an unsuccessful campaign for governor in Michigan. But he says he may run for the U.S. Senate in the future.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, Hoekstra was asked to assess the potential Republican candidates for president in 2012.
I think theres a lot of candidates out there. No ones clearly captured the imagination of the field right now except perhaps Donald Trump, he responds.

Well, Do we hate him or like him tonight? It is hard to keep up with it. LOL
mass hypnosis... mass hysteria... madness.

I couldn't agree more. All Trump has done is to do is take a pro American stance and hit Obummer unmercifully. We have had a 2 year drought of this. People are dying to hear it again. Maybe the RNC dopes and the potential candidates might take note.
I love him for the whole birther thing.
I hate him for threatening to run as a third party candidate. That would give Obama a second term.

Misleading headline. The article is about so much more than Hoekstra’s opinions on Trump.
Trump has already had his laundry washed in public..... If he would just get a hair-cut, I would really take him seriously.
Donald....How about a trim for a charity event?
I’ve always wondered what became of the term “humbug”. P.T. Barnum used it quite often.
I think he has a hairpiece and is bold underneath.
Mark my words... Trump may very well be this year’s Ross Perot, and he’ll bring a second Obama term.

Trump is not “saying things that need to be said”. Most of what he says is stupid locker room talk. The way he talks about the economy he sounds like Tony Soprano on a bad day. He does not understand free market economics. He has endorsed national health care. He said he loved the Supreme Court Kelo decision allowing developers to collude with local governments to use eminent domain to steal the property of small home and business owners. He has provided financial support only to pro-abortion, big government candidates. He called George Bush “evil”. He called Nancy Pelosi “super”. The guy is a raving fool. Other than that, he would be a great candidate. With Dennis Kucinich as his VP.
Straight Talk. As in Straight Talk Express?
I do enjoy that he keeps picking at Obama about the birth certificate, that he had business dealings with Rezko, etc etc., but I really get this feeling he's McCain lite.
Correct, but as I said on a different thread, Trump is doing the country a great service. While the MSM is bowing to 0, Trump is giving them a good reaming, one at a time. I cant wait until 0 gets his a** ripped off in the first debate with Trump!
IF he decides to run, then I will have to hear what his policies will be, what his economic stradegy will be, his stand on healthcare etc., but for now, he has alot of peoples attention!
