Giffords, whose astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, will command the shuttle, was "very pleased" to hear of the news, the congresswoman's spokesman C.J. Karamargin said Wednesday. The Arizona congresswoman, who served as chairwoman of the House subcommittee overseeing NASA, had previously asked the president to attend launches, but to no avail, he said.
"She smiled broadly," Karamargin said. "This is something very important to her. She has invited the president to attend numerous launches on various occasions, both in person and in writing, so the fact that he is now going to be attending is something that is very meaningful to her."

I don’t know why NASA isn’t on the list with NPR and PBS to have funding halted. I can’t imagine that our Founding Fathers imagined tax dollars taken from citizens at the point of a gun and turned over to a narrow group of people so they can run experiments in space. If there are good reasons to do this, the private sector will take care of it!!!
The truth is that she will have to resign at some point. No matter how well her recovery is going, her injuries are too severe for her to resume her duties as a congresswoman.

I agree. I hope she recovers enough to be able to live with her husband and not in a nursing home, but that’s probably the most that could be expected with such a severe wound.

If she wasn’t a drooling vegetable we’d have actually had a chance to see her by now. There is no way she will ever be able to resume her duties. Time to call a special election or appoint a successor.

I thought by AZ law that had to be done within 2 months of inability to fulfill duties of the office, so why hasn’t anything been done yet? Oh, that’s right, it’s the rats.
