The National Newspaper Publishers Association is affiliated with the hundreds of newspapers across the country that cater to the black community or, in the words of the NNPA, “The Black Press of America”. The Northeast Publishers Association is a smaller association that best characterized as the trade association for black newspapers in the Northeast.

The NPA has prepared the advertisement below to go in black newspapers across the country. Walter Smith, a director of the NNPA, blasted out the advertisement to many on their email list with a note saying, in part, “We can educate our readership by either running this ad or making a similar statement in our newspapers.”

The advertisement embraces the idea that Barack Obama was not born in the United States — a position rejected by most Americans. It’s bad for Barack Obama when even the black newspaper publishers of America think he is foreign born.

Nowhere is “natural born” defined.

Further, all of the citizenships defined therein are the result of a “statute,” and if it takes a statute to describe citizenship, that person is a “statutory” citizen and not a “natural born” citizen.

A statutory citizen (bestowed by man’s pen) can never be a “natural born” citizen (bestowed by God/nature).

Persons, eligible for the Office of the President of the United States (POTUS), NEVER have first generation ties to a foreign nation, whereas ineligible persons always do.

ALL statutory citizens are born with a tie to another nation by birthplace and/or blood, but NEVER is that the case with natural born citizens who have only American ties.

My understanding is that the laws of Hawaii facilitate obtaining a Hawaiian "birth certificate" to people born outside of Hawaii, and even outside of the country. Not to say that this fact means Obama/Soetoro was born outside of Hawaii, just that Hawaii plays loosey-goosey with "birth" records.

My sense is that Obama's citizenship is muddy - that he was "pure Indonesian" (as far as Indonesia was concerned) for some time; and then his "part American" quality, evidenced by some sort of record in Hawaii, was used to avoid the US naturalization process.

Hey, black publishers... stop playing stupid! Natural Born citizen means, “Born under the sole jurisdiction of”. Two parents who are citizens, and born on our soil is the only way that specific condition can be met.

Its “natural born Citizen” not “natural born citizen”. Capitalization matters.

That ad has a glaring error in it: Title 8, Sec. 1401 does not define "Natural Born Citizen", nor does it even use the phrase. What that statute defines is who is a citizen at birth, which is not the same thing. (And, incidentally, the earlier version of that statute, the one in effect at the time of Obama's birth in 1961, would not even have qualified Obama as a citizen at birth, if born abroad, because his citizen mother had not yet attained the age of nineteen and his father was never a citizen.)

The definition of "Natural Born Citizen," as understood by the writers of that phrase in the Constitution, comes from Vattel: a person who is born within the country to parents who are both citizens at the time of his birth.

Hard to tell if the error in the ad is deliberate or due to ignorance. In either event, it doesn't end the debate regarding Obama's constitutional qualifications to be president.

This is written in “lawyer speak” and is defensible. The central statement is, "The US Constitution does not require a candidate for the President of the United States to be born on US Soil." The constitution has requirements to be president not to be a candidate. Any ineligible fool can be a candidate.

In previous times one would not have expected the left to have the “audacity” to run an ineligible candidate, but this is just one more way for them to spit on the constitution. They not only want to destroy our country... they want to desecrate every shred, every piece of what has made her the greatest country in human history. Why? It is good vs. evil my friends. Those on the side of evil reveal themselves with this type of BS.

This ad was written to be deceiving from start to finish. Should this be the tactics of an organization representing our free press? This is just one more sign that the lefties have taken over nearly all Main Stream Media Organizations. The ends will always justify the means with these folks.

The funny thing is that this is also another act of simple studidity. It is more like arguing with a lying teenager, than what you would expect from the leaders of “The Black Press of America”. What a bunch of fools.

No, it’s not. This is to determine just plain citizenship, and it only applies to births after that code went into effect.

The Department of State has a page where they describe what rules were in place for what time period, and their requirements for citizenship are based on the rules that were in effect at the time of birth. For the time period in which Obama was born one of the parents had to be a citizen and at least 19 years old.

So they’re calling “natural born citizenship” the same thing as just plain citizenship, AND they’re applying today’s standards as if it applied back then. Using the standards that the Passport Office uses, Obama could not even prove US citizenship by claiming he was born to SAD outside the US. That’s not even NBC, that’s just plain citizenship. So if he wasn’t born in the US then he’s not even a US citizen unless he naturalized at some point.

Kind of in and out today and rushed, or else I would find the link to the page that shows this.

No worries STARWISE...this advertisement indicates that whoever put it together, is ignorant on the issue.

As has been mentioned up thread already, this ad is trying to equate "natural born Citizen(s)" with statue 1401.

Statue 1401 can be found within the U.S. code under TITLE 8—ALIENS AND NATIONALITY, and mentions nothing about "natural born" Citizens. It can not, anyway, as Congressional statues can not define who a "natural born" Citizen is. If it were possible, the Naturalization Act of 1790 would have been preserved (instead of being repealed by the Act of 1795).
