Sounding increasingly like a candidate, Donald Trump repeatedly told a raucous tea party crowd today he has the qualities needed in the White House and the conservative ideals necessary to seal the Republican nomination should he decide to run.
Trump struck familiar themes and talked about his own business acumen in his speech to hundreds gathered at a park here, where his name festooned signs, buttons and T-shirts of supporters. The real estate mogul even talked about the type of people he'd have serve as diplomats and said he was looking forward to releasing his financial disclosures.
"Most very successful people, the kind of people that we need running our country, don't want to be scrutinized and abused," he said. "This is the kind of person that this country must have right now."
He derided President Barack Obama, calling him the worst to occupy the White House in history. He again questioned whether the president was born in the U.S., even though the fact has been affirmed by officials in Hawaii, where Obama was born. And he maligned China, saying the U.S. should take control of Iraqi oil and described American infrastructure as third world.
Trump ticked through a number of issues seen as bedrocks for conservative candidates, saying he is anti-abortion, against gun control and wants to repeal Obama's health care law. Throughout the speech, he portrayed the U.S. as a nation in decline and himself as its potential savior.

Trump can be President. Why not? He has the name recognition, the seed money to run a campaign and he appeals to the people who believe Obama is not a citizen as well as the people who believe we need an “in your face” President. In addition he appeals to the independents.
Don’t discount him. Like him or hate him, he is going to be around for a while, either as a candidate or as a King maker.
IIRC, if we are going by the “He was a Lib before he was a Conservative, therefore he is not our candidate” then we would never have supported Ronald Reagan.
People change. I believe it is called an epiphany.
Trump’s a fake.
He’s either seen his opportunity to get in to boost his ego or he’s pulling a Ross Perot head fake on conservatives and Republicans.
If he gets in, he’ll be as good as McCain would have been.
Have you ever run a business?
Name three professors at Harvard that would remember you.
What hospital were you born in?
Ohhh, that could get good.
You should post that as a vanity! If you don’t, I will post it for you and give you all the credit.
That is exactly the difference. Trump knows who to go after to get back. Palin hasnt got to that level.
I’ll take the businessman over the politician. The businessman doesnt have the luxury of doing a losing deal and walking away. It can ruin his business. The politician can simply lay the blame on others and walk away.
Oh I like Palin, but the Gosh, Golly Gee thing wont do her any good unless she learns to become ruthless.
I think he’s working for Hillary. He’ll bow out and declare her the best woman for the job ... once he thoroughly humiliates Obama. By courting the Tea Party now he’s hoping to demoralize them when they realize in a few months that they’ve been had. Hillary is running. And Trump is clearing the decks for her.
But, of course, I won’t post it without your approval.
Oh, really...then at least more than half of all Freepers are definitely not conservatives!!!
Exactly. We should use Trump to bash the other side (especially over the birth certificate issue) and then discard him when he's no longer useful.
Just as any self-serving, unprincipled mogul would do.
“Bartender...may I have one of whatever it is that Freeper ‘carmody’ is drinking?”
Of COURSE McCain got testy. Anyone who achieves the label of Socialist OVER McCain, would really annoy him. HE wants to be the best socialist!
EXCEPT
People get bit by the Fame Bug. If he gets the Republican nod, or even gets close, he WON'T be able to resist the run.
I think an Obama record of ahhh’s and ummm’s would be set.
“We should use Trump to bash the other side (especially over the birth certificate issue) and then discard him when he’s no longer useful.
Just as any self-serving, unprincipled mogul would do. “
Its what he would do with any one of us.
And let me add, the last time freepers went gaga over a NE 'republican' was Rudy Guliani.
They are now gone- permanently. Because Rudy isn't a conservative.
If you want Trump, at least be honest with yourself about who you’re getting.
