Obama predicts: 'American people will feel that I deserve a second term' By Michael O'Brien - 04/15/11 02:59 PM ET
President Obama said Friday that he's convinced that voters will come to see him as the candidate best prepared to serve as president by next fall's elections.
The president said he thinks that he can make the case for a second term, though he acknowledged that the state of the economy could be his biggest hurdle to clear in winning reelection.
"I think the economy's going to continue to improve, and I think I'm going to be able to make an effective case that ... I am the person who is best prepared to finish the job so that we are on track to succeed in the 21st century," Obama said in a video interview this morning with The Associated Press.
"I think I can make that case, and I think that, in the debates that take place over the next 18 months, the American people will feel that I deserve a second term," Obama added.
The president launched his campaign earlier this month by filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to formally indicate he would seek a second term. Obama advanced that effort with a trio of fundraisers last night in his adoptive hometown of Chicago, the city where his reelection effort will be headquartered.
Obama enjoys an early advantage over most of the Republicans vying for the nomination to challenge him in 2012, but polls suggest that the president doesn't enjoy broad support on the issue he says is most important: the economy. In a poll released on Friday, Gallup found Obama's approval rating stood at 41 percent, an all time low. Gallup said the figure was fueled by economic dissatisfaction.
"I think that my biggest concern, when it comes to reelection, is my biggest concern as president of the United States, which is our economy moving fast enough to give people the kind of relief that they need," Obama said.
As for the biggest strength Obama believes he has heading into 2012? He said it was his "confidence in the American people."
Don’t take it personally, Oblahblah,(he will, but only in the most self-serving way) , but you will lose in the biggest landslide in American Political History. It’s going to be fun to see. I’m predicting a 71% to 29% route in the popular vote.
In Prison for 60 years.
Term of 20 to life for fraud I hope..
I'd put it like this (and note: there is only ONE who is Omniscient and without error. I certainly can be wrong): God is not detached from the affairs of man. He is not a detached watchmaker who wound up his watch and left it alone as HE vacated to the distant Heavenlies. The passage of Daniel 4:17 certainly does apply: "... the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men". And note that the reference here was to a heathen nation - not Israel.
But, that being said. I acknowledge that God's ways are known to HIM alone. We know that HE is good, and HE is a God of love, and mercy, AND Justice. Romans 11:22 "Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God..."
Yes, I believe if a people honor and revere God - they will be blessed. And if they distain him, with at most a lip-service reverence - they will be cursed. But how God will carry out HIS Judgment - only HE knows. We know that HE is long suffering and patient - not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. He waited 400 years for the iniquity of the Amorites to be full ... and yet they never repented. God obviously has HIS own time-schedule, and its not that of man.
I believe we get the leaders we deserve, and who reflect the people we are. How God will use this for HIS purpose - is known to HIM. Whether HE will use this as a chastisement to bring wayward people back, or whether we will be like the people of Romans 1 where it is said 3 times, "God gave them up"... is known only to God.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. A longer sentence.
That looks like a good reply to me as far as the subject matter goes.
Like hell!
Good points Theophilus, I see where your coming from now. I wish I had the whole thread before my first response to you and some to El Cid. But I’ve got to admit though that El Cid has made some good points later on., Never the less short responses are like Arminianists that keep reducing the gospel to short statements to they eventually get it down to bumper sticker theology “be good, Jesus Saves, just believe” which is full of errors. Last point I don’t think any body is going to Hell over what they stated theological on FR, if that was the case we would all probably be going to Hell, as you well know salvation is by grace and not by any thing we say or don’t say. Well I’ve uses up my three posts for the day that I said I would only allow my self every day, so take care and God bless. And God bless you to El Cid
5.00 by Memorial Day most likely.
American people?
Dead people, fictional characters, crazy people, homeless people they bribe, noncitizens, etc.....
Obama has "confidence" that the American people know how special he is and that he obviously deserves a second term. Hubris is right.
Thanks Sub-Driver. Reminds me of a scene in “My Cousin Vinnie”.
In the words of William Munny to Little Bill: “Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.”
“Hes insane.”
He certainly is a megalomaniac!
“Hes insane.”
He certainly is a megalomaniac!
Er... I think you have your sequence messed up there....
