I thought the president would take a pass when I asked him about Donald Trumps rise to the top of the Republican field in my exclusive interview today.
Far from it.
He grabbed at the chance with a big smile saying he thinks the whole issue will be a problem for Republicans.
I think that over the last two and a half years there's been an effort to go at me in a way that is politically expedient in the short-term for Republicans. But [it] creates, I think a problem for them when they want to actually run in a general election where most people feel pretty confident the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii. He-- he doesn't have horns we're not really worrying about conspiracy theories or-- or birth certificates, President Obama told me.
And in all my talks with Obama I think it was the first time he was one the same page as Karl Rove who thinks the birther controversy is hurting the GOP.
The truth of the matter is that I think that the vast majority of Americans across the country Democratic or Republican really want this election to be about growing the economy, getting control of the deficit, preparing the future for our kids. And my suspicion is that anybody who is not addressing those questions
Is going to be in trouble. I think they may get a quick pop in the news. They may get a lot of attention. But ultimately, the American people understand this is a serious, sober time, he told me....

The first thing I noticed. For someone who reads “I,I,I” constantly from his trusted teleprompter, his careful 3rd person response is curious.
“...the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii. He— he doesn’t have horns ” sounds pretty sheepish to me.
“Obama Exclusive: I Was Born in Hawaii and I Dont ‘Have Horns’”
Prove you don’t have horns, Beelzebub.
I agree entirely. This hurts the GOP but that hasn’t stopped our stupidity before. See O’Donnell, Angle, Birthers, etc
A golden opportunity to knock this guy out of office in 2012 and take more seats in Congress, but we’ll choke it away with stupidity like this. Guaranteed.
I doubt he has a Christian baptism certificate.
We want this election to be about an ABSOLUTE rejection of Socialism and Marxist ideals.
I suppose for anybody who puts political party above the US Constitution, you may right.
But those people called "birthers" they are democrats, republicans, independents, majority of Tea Party... they're not looking at this as a political issue.
This is a constitutional issue.
Aha! He doesn’t have horns because THEY WERE REMOVED. Hence, the scars all over his skull!
:-)
Agree. Narcissist that he is, its very odd that Obama would ‘shift’ into the third person for someone who is almost always self referential. With him, it’s usually I,I,I...me,me,my. In this particular instance, however, he cleverly avoids making a declarative statement.
You may not have horns, Obama, but you have big ole flop ears and an ugly wart thing on your snout.
Georgie Stephhie and Karl Rove are on the SAME PAGE!! And that should give us all pause....
In 2004 political legends in their own minds like Rove did not want to go after Kerry's personal narrative as a war hero for fear that more questions would be raised about Bush's service in the ANG. It took the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to stop Kerry like a deer in the headlights despite criticism from the likes of McCain and Rove.
The GOP has hurt itself. The Tea Party and people like Angle, O'Donnell, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, etc. are trying to save its sorry ass.
Apparently Boner et al are going along with him.
From Rasmussen today:
51% Favor Repeal of the Health Care Law
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -15 (see trends).
"The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners."
Chief Justice Morrison Waite, in Minor v. Happersett, cited by Horace Gray in Wong Kim Ark as the definition of a natural born citizen, cited by Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes in Perkins v. Elg..
For those buying the 14th Amendment/Title 8 ploy, here is the definition from the Congressional Record (Globe) of 1866 by the author of the 14th Amendment, Congressman, Judge, John Bingham:
I find no fault with the introductory clause [S 61 Bill], which is simply declaratory of what is written in the Constitution, that every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen .
Don't let them confuse you. Either no one commenting here knows the truth, or they don't want you to know it. Title 8, the definition applying to Obama, by his own admission, never mentions the case "born on the soil of citizen parents" because that is the definition of a natural citizen. Title 8 does what the Constititution permits congress to do, create a uniform naturalization code. Laws can not define a child as citizen by nature. Only God does that. The naturally born citizen is born to two citizen parents, on the soil of which he is a citizen. Barack Obama Jr., if he was born in Hawaii, and we should assume he was until there is proof otherwise, is a naturalized citizen, born of a citizen mother and non-citizen father, eligible to every office in our government but the presidency. Our president must be a natural born citizen.
Sorry?
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
ROTFLOL!
Just how stupid are we supposed to be? Oh yeah, let’s concentrate on the important issues. I only hope Trump doesn’t cave, but he will..no doubt about it....big plans already laid out for we little people...
Actually.
Lots of FReepers have discussed those scars on Obama’s head.
Perhaps those were hidden too.
