Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run as Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination
WSJ ^ | 4/11/2011

Posted on 04/11/2011 9:38:25 PM PDT by Uncledave

{snip} “I hate what’s happening to the country,” said Mr. Trump, a real estate tycoon and host of the NBC show “Celebrity Apprentice.” He will not formally make a decision until June, however, when this season of his television show is over. “I can’t run during the airing of that show,” Mr. Trump said, “I’m not allowed to.” But he said he would make an announcement “by June” and his candidacy looks increasingly likely.

Mr. Trump’s candidacy would complicate matters for the GOP as it looks to front someone who can unite the fractious party and mount a serious challenge to President Obama’s reelection bid. A recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll recently found Mr. Trump tied for second place with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee among likely voters in a GOP primary. Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who moved a step closer to formally declaring his own candidacy Monday, is still the frontrunner, though not by a wide margin.

“I think the Republicans are very concerned that I [may] run as an independent,” Mr. Trump said. His support is highest among the conservative wing of the party, not least because he is among the so-called “birthers” who doubt that President Obama in fact was born in the U.S. “It’s a very important issue,” Mr. Trump said of demanding that President Obama show his birth certificate, which has separately been reviewed by the media and deemed legitimate. “I’m not ashamed of having raised that issue.”

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump. “The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.” Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”

Yep - that sounds like the ticket - and if he is winning, he will pull a stunt to lose the election, and BAM another 4 years of The Usurper, and his destructive agenda in the service of NWO, the bankers and super rich!
I distrust The Donald, but am glad of the issue he is raising. If no one picks up the baton, and runs with it, we are being setup! JMHO

and perhaps the Republicans in Congress will suddenly become both principled and resolute.

That is looking like a tall order anymore.

And he would too.

Ordinarily this would mean a spoiler situation which would make Obama a shoo-in. But Trump might squash Obama so flat that it would turn into Trump vs. the GOP and the Democrats made extinct. Is Sarah Palin ready to take on the Trumpster?

I think if Trump quit after shooting Obama full of (political) holes, more of his following would fall to the GOP than to the Democrats. At least Republicans are occasionally willing to hint that something is amiss with Obama. Democrats? Pfah, they lick Obama’s boot soles and say yum.

We need ONE candidate, Period and NO Spoilers.

Yes, absolutely.

NO MORE PEROTS!

If Trump runs as an indy, then one might suspect that the birth cert stuff was just a pub stunt to get some quick ink, and that he's covertly in Obama's corner. (Just as Perot was for impeached-and-disbarred-Clinton).

I don’t believe for one second that Trump is running for President. But, folks are getting way ahead of themselves here. If Trump runs, we’d have an answer on Obama’s BC because there will be no way Obama can continue to avoid producing. So, if Obama is brought down by the BC in the biggest scandal in history, then Trump waltzes to the GOP nomination and likely the presidency. If Obama produces the BC, then Trump is discredited and will not run in any case.

Yeah, and Perot probably would have won and straightened out our fiscal mess if he had not flaked out in the middle of the race!

Running as an Independent does not mean you're not conservative.

I bet that there's a lot of Independents more conservative than a lot of RINO’s.

Anyway, he's a business guy. If he does run, I bet saying he would consider running as an independent at this stage is just to get the GOP to take him seriously and include him because he has the power to wreck the election for them if they don't,

Trump is a spoiler. He’s probably working with Rudy. Shades of Fred Thompson and John McCain.

What does that even mean? Thompson was a spoiler?

“Hell it is a free country, he and his three dozen supporters should be interesting”

Yeah, that’s why he came in tied for second w/Huckabee in a recent poll. Because he only has 3 dozen supporters. Right.

Straw poll don’t mean crap. Stick to real stories. If I remember correctly and I do the majority of the attendees had not arrived when the bogus poll was taken. If they had been, the other dingle berry Ron Paul would have won.
