Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run as Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination
WSJ ^ | 4/11/2011

{snip} “I hate what’s happening to the country,” said Mr. Trump, a real estate tycoon and host of the NBC show “Celebrity Apprentice.” He will not formally make a decision until June, however, when this season of his television show is over. “I can’t run during the airing of that show,” Mr. Trump said, “I’m not allowed to.” But he said he would make an announcement “by June” and his candidacy looks increasingly likely.

Mr. Trump’s candidacy would complicate matters for the GOP as it looks to front someone who can unite the fractious party and mount a serious challenge to President Obama’s reelection bid. A recent Wall Street Journal/NBC poll recently found Mr. Trump tied for second place with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee among likely voters in a GOP primary. Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who moved a step closer to formally declaring his own candidacy Monday, is still the frontrunner, though not by a wide margin.

“I think the Republicans are very concerned that I [may] run as an independent,” Mr. Trump said. His support is highest among the conservative wing of the party, not least because he is among the so-called “birthers” who doubt that President Obama in fact was born in the U.S. “It’s a very important issue,” Mr. Trump said of demanding that President Obama show his birth certificate, which has separately been reviewed by the media and deemed legitimate. “I’m not ashamed of having raised that issue.”

“I am very conservative,” said Mr. Trump. “The concern is if I don’t win [the GOP primary] will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes.” Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”

I bet saying he would consider running as an independent at this stage is just to get the GOP to take him seriously and include him because he has the power to wreck the election for them if they don't,

I also think this is what is going on. It is a wake-up call to the GOP and the public. Better focus on the main problem that NEEDS to be fixed, the economy, and we better select a candidate who has the what it takes to fix it. If we don't, nothing else will matter.

I seriously doubt this as he knows it would be a win for the Magic Negro.

This was the plan. This explains it all. He will run as a Perot-type spoiler and suck votes from the Republican nominee—who will hopefully be a conservative.

This explains why a liberal, Democrat-donor pretended to be a conservative. And this explains why the major networks and the New York Times gave him plenty of publicity. Just like they gave Ross Perot publicity way back when. Not that they wanted Perot to win, but because they knew that Perot would split the Republican vote.

Probably he’s working for Hillary, as many have speculated. But possibly he’s working for OBAMA, and only pretending to attack him!

What could be better for Obama? It splits the Republican vote, and it draws unhappy liberals back to his side.

As I’ve been saying all along, Trump has done a great job spreading the birther story, WITH MSM HELP. But he would make a LOUSY President.

And this proves it, once again. Trump a conservative? Trump a Christian? Trump a pro-lifer? Trump an honest guy with principles? Give me a break! He has always done whatever it takes to make money and succeed at what he wants.

Yeah, and Perot probably would have won and straightened out our fiscal mess if he had not flaked out in the middle of the race!

Perot's fiscal, economic, and business policies were generally effective, reasonable and sustainable.

One must keep in mind that Perot made a great deal of his fortune on Federal government (social) contracts. On the plus side, he did deliver an efficient management system at a good price for the largest government social undertaking at the time.

Another point to remember is that Perot was intensely loyal to his employees, and protected them internationally with unilateral direct action. There was little he was afraid of.

When his daughter was threatened, Perot, with his connections, knew the threat came from inside the US government, and that these people were the few in the world that were untouchable by him, and he could never succeed in protecting his daughter. He chose to look like a fool and keep his daughter.

Well, it would have taken a lot of guts...but why didn’t he just do a press conference on the threats and who he believed were behind them..get it all out and that would have kept it from happening, I would think.
