A young Tauranga man wants "legal weed" banned, claiming an addiction to it drove him to steal and left him riddled with anxiety.
Student Robert Moore, 23, (pictured) says he smoked up to $80 of Kronic each day and claims the marijuana alternative has had damaging psychological and physical effects on him. But Kronic has rejected the claims, saying its products are not addictive and are harmless unless used irresponsibly. The R18 synthetic cannabinoid is made from a mixture of dried herbs and is available at about 20 outlets across the Western Bay.
The product usually contains the 1,1-dimethyloctyl homologue of the substance CP 47,497, a synthetic substantially similar to the main active component of cannabis tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Mr Moore spoke to the Bay of Plenty Times after the newspaper last month reported that Kronic was being sold outside Western Bay's largest secondary school - horrifying the mother of one teenager who she says got stoned from it.
Mr Moore got hooked on the product after first trying it late last year.

His mother said her son was characteristically "cheerful" and "intense" but had changed noticeably after he started using the product.
"We had him home for the summer and his personality was completely screwed. He'd become very devious, he was very distant and he had lost the ability to socialise. His personality has changed radically because of this and I think it should be banned, definitely." But Kronic spokesman Ben Thompson said the product contained no ingredients that could create a dependence or cause psychological problems.
"The effects are similar to cannabis but it's not as strong or intense and isn't harmful."

Weed has also helped many smart people become successful. We can post stories about anybody else’s experiences, but our lives are individual, and God gives ALL of us the opportunity to fail. Man just restricts us!
Yes...you have a point.
So? The world needs waiters and cab drivers, too. What's wrong with waiting tables or driving a cab?
lol, since it worked out so well the last time prohibition was tried. Those too stupid to learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. BTW even die hard prohibitionists admitted that prohibition was a dismal failure and a mistake the last time around.
“lol, since it worked out so well the last time prohibition was tried. Those too stupid to learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. BTW even die hard prohibitionists admitted that prohibition was a dismal failure and a mistake the last time around.”
Those who are just plain too stupid to understand lies and distortions are just plain stupid. You will be unable to come up with statistics to support your stupid position...like how many died due to prohibition compared to how many die each year now due to alcohol. Or, maybe you can try crime...you will lose on all counts fool. You have been brainwashed without thinking about the subject...that indeed does make you a fool.
You confuse libertarianism with freedom and God, libertarianism puts morality aside...that is their biggest mistake. Then, there are other issues as well that many libertarians are making...like their wanting to end the Fed, their misconception that we suffered from inflation the last few years...etc.
I realize that making alcohol against the law would not get to first base anymore...no matter how much damage, pain, and suffering it causes. I also do believe people have the right to harm themselves...but, the problem with alcohol is when we do harm because of it, we ALWAYS harm others as well.
Yes, you make a good point. Problem is, when alcohol harms it ALWAYS harms others as well.
You are joking right? Are you stupid enough to really believe more people were killed because of prohibition than now without it because of alcohol?
“The perpetual pothead seems to me to be more along the lines of a perpetual drunk, or the three pack a day smoker. They exist but they arent as common as people seem to think.”
You lead a sheltered life friend...
I haven’t confused anything. You infer a kindred to the Sanhedrin. They were lovers of legalisms that put arbitrary limits on God.
God set this world into motion with man/woman in a perfect environment. Because of their faults, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That is in the Bible, you know.
But, God provided a way, through FAITH, to be free of the law and sin. He gave us a choice. Believe in Him or die! With that simple faith in His ability to lift us out of that sinful life, He promised us help in the form of His indwelling Spirit. Without that help, we are doomed for eternity, for it is through that HELP, that we are able to overcome.
I revel in the liberty that He provides tom us, and may even include a little libation, or a “toke” on a joint. I’ve done both, but His spirit teaches that ANYTHING is good, but not all things are expedient. We have His Spirit to guide us into ALL truth... And I will trust Him to guide my life. Does that give complete liberty? Yes, but we must always remember not to cause others to “stumble”!
YMMV...
So if it took a constitutional amendment to ban alcohol, how did so many other substances get banned without one?
Those are piddly compared to just driving deaths from drunk driving...try over 10,000 per year. And that is a low year (2009). Source: http://www.alcoholstats.com/page.aspx?id=136

The difference in the homicide rate you quoted is miniscule compared to the suffering now from alcohol...not to mention other drugs...NO, it is not because they are illegal...it is because they make people insane.
“His spirit teaches that ANYTHING is good,...”
You are not serious, right?
23 Everything is permissiblebut not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissiblebut not everything is constructive. 24Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
25 Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26 for, The earth is the Lords, and everything in it.
27 If some unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28 But if anyone says to you, This has been offered in sacrifice, then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience saked 29 the other mans conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by anothers conscience? 30 If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God 33 even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.... - NIV
Rape! Black men! Jazz music! Look out!
Wow a tolerant libertarian trying to censor politically incorrect views on pot. Where have I heard that before?
Leaving aside the facts (Im a dual citizen and socialist George Soros is advertising pot across the world) isnt it ironic how youre preaching against preaching? Very circular. Only drug addicts deserve liberty, hey?
