Newspaper columnists don't compose their own titles.
That's the job of the Headline Editor at each newspaper running the column.
Reason is: Some papers may choose to run the column in one-column format, others in two-, three- or four-column format. In each case the headline must be of a different width and proportion. Accordingly, the individual papers always write the headlines -- on any news story or commentary.
Well, there's a bit of news business trade knowledge you don't hear every day. I wasn't aware of that.
In the case of this article, it appears that the headline writer did Kraut an extreme dis-service. I'd strangle the guy, if I were him.
