MESQUITE, Texas - A YouTube video of a police officer using pepper spray on a baby squirrel has sparked outrage in the city of Mesquite, Tx.
A student recorded the incident. In the video, the officer is seen spraying the animal after it began chasing students around at Kimbrough Middle School.
Students are heard begging the cop, reffered to as Officer Davis on the video, to stop with cries of "No!" and "Don't spray him!"
Mesquite Police Department has defended the officer's actions.
Sgt. Wes Talley said the officer stood between a group of students and the animal because he thought it may have been rabid.

Another SWAT team leader in training!
Why are you “pretty sure that there has never been a case of rabies transmitted to a human from a squirrel”? Do you documentation?

If you like hot peppers I recommend the Sichuan Squirrel. ;^)
Wrong. All professions have a few bad apples. ALL of them. I could post a dozen stories every day of soldiers from the various United States Armed forces who commit criminal acts. That doesn’t make the vast majority of them any less brave, patriotic, or honorable. What you and others of your ilk do, is simply take the communist/media playbook, and play the “drip, drip, drip” game to paint an entire profession with a broad brush, all because of a petty little vindictive agenda.
The fact that you hide behind a keyboard to do it speaks volumes about your character.
When I was a kid I loved squirrel and rabbit gravy.
I’m sure you can leap buildings in a single bound as well, right? This is the internet after all.
I frankly don’t believe that you’ve killed anything. Even if you have, it doesn’t change the reality of my earlier post.
Pepper spray is pepper. In Vermont I talked to a gun shop owner who was a former police officer and a current firearms instructor. He told us he always took a burrito to his class on using pepper spray and sprayed it then ate it in front of the class.
Ping!
Looks tastey.
Even if what you are saying is true... (if they were going 10-15 MPH over speed limit and faster than the rest of the traffic, how were YOU able to stay with them?) how do you KNOW for a fact that they weren’t going to a mutual aid call the other jurisdiction? Frankly, you don’t know what they were up to, you just assumed... if it happened at all that is.
that's the problem with your argument, the few bad apples argument no longer works. The number of bad apples has exceeded the acceptable bushel basket ratio... The law enforcement profession has more than it's share of bad apples.
If I posted every single story I found each day about a cop arrested for a crime or one suspended for serious misconduct it would crash the Free Republic servers...
Let me guess, mall cop, are security cop?????
Hey, that squirrel was making a jump for his nuts and it was self defense.
Like squirrel and I like rabbit.
Now we’ll both probably catch holy hell for daring to say we eat cute furry animals.
I personally don’t like it when any sentient being is harmed in any way - but I’m not totally sure what was happening with this little animal. That being said, what I do know is that recently the police do not have a great track record with pets/animals.

Ate some ground hog once, it is a little on the greasy side. But rabbit and squirrels are really good stuff.
