Washington (CNN) – Self-proclaimed birther Donald Trump is now so doubtful of President Obama's birthplace that he's sent a team of his own investigators to Hawaii in hopes of getting to the bottom of the issue.
That's according to Trump himself, who, in an interview with NBC, warned his investigators just might uncover "one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond."
"I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding," Trump said an interview that aired Thursday Morning.
Asked if he has assigned people specifically to search in Hawaii, Trump said, "Absolutely."
The business mogul, who in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll is tied for second place among potential presidential candidates, also suggested the president is involved in an ongoing cover-up over the matter.
"He spent $2 million in legal fees trying on to get away from this issue, and if it weren't an issue, why wouldn't he just solve it?" he said. "I wish he would because if he doesn't, it's one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you're not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts."

My wife and I have wondered for 2 years why he doesn’t just produce the d**m thing and put this to rest. Then we found an old copy of my BC from 1951 Indiana. It had one little thing on it that might be an embarrassment to a presidential candidate, “legitimate”. Along with all the other stuff there was a line for legitimacy, which of course I can proudly say I was. Would that have been enough to keep him from being elected? I don’t know, but it could have been embarrassing. His father was married to a woman in Kenya when he married his mother which makes the marriage null and void in this country. Just a thought.

It probably took that long to make 100% sure the evidence on obama is irrefutable before going public.
And also to have in place a counterattack when the inevitable phone call goes to the Chicago thugs to ‘get rid of the problem’.

My guess is that Trump figures that no matter what he finds out about Obama’s birth records, Trump wins and Obama loses for allowing this doubt to cloud his bona fides for so long. What was the purpose, if indeed, Obama was born in Hawaii? Obama is going to have to explain and he is going to look like a fool, or an impostor. Either way, Trump win.

I just watched the “msNBC’ interview of Trump. I think there is more going on here then we think. Why would nbc, after ALWAYS attacking conservatives, let Trump, who WORKS for NBC hurt obama?
1. He’s going to say he found the birth certificate and its genuine and it goes away for Obama.
2. As some have mentioned here, he’s helping Hillary.
3. He’s trying to split the party so obama wins.
I’m sure there are other things I have not thought of, but I think he’s playing us.
Imagine an America in which every bill signed by Obama, every nomination, and every “presidential” order from the usurper was repealed. America as a free, capitalist country - life would be glorious!

What comes next? Seems Trump is going to have to throw out some evidence if he is to be taken seriously. He’s been talking for about 3 weeks, but a lot of people talked before him and so far no “new” information has developed. Where it goes from here, well, a big move best be coming up.

Since “O” cannot possibly win another term as President based on his character, record or on his demonstrated ‘ability’...the final, objective rebuttal of the whole ‘citizenship’ thing, could do what nothing else will accomplish for him.
It’s called lazy journalism. They do very superficial research and do not verify facts.
do you think he didn’t really do this long ago? He is dripping out a story for the media, piece by piece. Next he may tease out some stuff his ‘investigators’ find. In reality I suspect he has done extensive due diligence and investigation before ever touching the issue and found enough to satisfy him, to such a degree that he has made this a central issue in his interviews. He believes he has enough to be untouchable, no matter what the administration comes up with. He would never risk letting himself be discredited so easily otherwise.
He isn’t stupid. Stupid people would talk, then investigate. It defies belief that he would not have investigated everything possible before ever opening his mouth.
The guy is openly using the phrase the ‘greatest scam ever’ in reference to this, with the caveat ‘if there is something there.’ You can bet your bottom dollar he knows there IS something there, knows what it is, and is just playing the media/sheeple game of acting like he is just discovering it too.
This would be why he offered various reasons obama might hide his bc. In reality, I suspect he almost has to know what the actual deal is, but by offering lots of theories, he creates doubts in tv viewers minds.
It is also probably part of why he isn’t touching the natural born issue re obama’s father. 1) tv viewers’ eyes will glaze over and 2) I bet he knows the BC deal and that is enough. He believes what he has found is enough to checkmate the issue.
He hasn't explained yet. Other than making a snide comment about pasting his BC on his forehead. Who is going to make him explain? Obama ignores, ignores, ignores.

His 'authoritative' pronouncement will eliminate Obama's birth place as any issue of consequence for 2012 election.
I keep asking this question:
Why can’t the “Red” states pass a law that to be on the 2012 presidental ballot all candidates show their birth certificate.
Without being on the ballot that sure shifts the outcome!
I seriously doubt that any state Baraq has a legitimate shot at winning in 012 would pass this type of legislation. So I don't see it as effective at all.
