Live thread: Wisconsin Supreme Court election - Prosser vs Kloppenburg

This election is important nationally too. If Kloppenburg is elected the Wisconsin mandate by the electorate in 2010 in this state will be negated by the WI Supreme Court and the unions will have won.

I live in a hardcore conservative area and discovered today that my Prosser yardsign was mutilated and thrown into one of my plantings.

Pray for Wisconsin and for Prosser's election!

When the results at the ballot box are reversed through superior lawyering, I consider it a "stolen" election. The criteria for winning an election should be garnering the most LEGAL votes, not having the best lawyers

A minor correction.

224 votes difference out of 1478924 total is 0.15%. This is in my opinion statistically impossible. Votes had to be generated to make it this close.

Oh, absolutely it's impossible. The "vote" machine is churning them out just to keep up.

On what rational basis should Prosser recuse himself from any cases involving the passage of these laws? The Demoscum don’t have a leg to stand on.

Don’t necessarily disagree. To me, this falls under the O.D.F. Doctrine (Own Damn Fault), and I view it as we fumbled the victory away, not that it was taken away (like in Washington and South Dakota).

In 2012 we will need the votes plus the best lawyers. The issues will likely be the same as in this election, so I’d expect a similar result if Obama can motivate the students a second time around. This election tells us that WI is in play and can be won if we have a candidate that will motivate voters.

Don't forget putting in place some safeguarding laws, which would greatly alleviate much of the need for legal wrangling. Voter I.D. is being pushed successfully in several states right now. It's just a dream, but I'd love to see a trend toward doing away with no-excuse "absentee" voting and "early" voting as well. They are recipes for fraud.

That is something I'll never understand. How these students, who are supposed to be at least somewhat intelligent, can't see that this Marxist fraud is selling their future down the river is beyond my comprehension.

Throwing out an incumbent is always difficult, doubly so in a special election. If the Democratic Party can mobilize enough to do that, it bodes ill for Republicans.

You don't get it. The 'cRats aren't winning through mobilizing voters, they're CHEATING!

I don't think so. I mean, I agree that it's tough to unseat an incumbent, but special elections are turnout elections and all the emotion was on the Dem side of things, all the money, all the issues (the GOP's best issue was a response to the phony issue).

Next time around the emotion won't quite be there, not at that level, because it will have been a year and the world will not have come to an end. The turnout will be more representative of the entire population (if Dane is mobilized to vote so will other areas). That's why it's always important to get the big "nasty" things done in the first few months, then the general public has time to realize it didn't affect them all that much. A lot of the emotion then dissipates.
