PPP poll: Trump within six points of Romney in … New Hampshire
Hot Air ^ | April 05, 2011 | ED MORRISSEY

Posted on 04/05/2011 2:18:27 PM PDT by RobinMasters

I’ll be shocked if he runs, no matter what Bernie Goldberg says, but “Trump vs. Anyone” hypotheticals are so much fun that I’m practically obliged to blog them.

If Trump actually run 21% of New Hampshire GOP voters say they’d vote for him, compared to 27% for Romney. The key to Trump’s relatively strong showing? He does well with birthers and Tea Partiers, two groups he has seemed to actively court with his public comments of late. 42% of primary voters firmly say they do not believe Barack Obama was born in the United States to 35% who believe that he was and 23% who aren’t sure. Trump leads Romney 22-21 with the birther crowd, but Romney holds the overall lead because he’s up by a much wider margin with the folks who dismiss the birther theory.

Trump also leads Romney 23-21 with the Republican primary voters who consider themselves to be Tea Party members but that’s only 30% of the electorate and Romney’s up by a good margin with the folks who don’t identify with that movement…

The GOP and the GOP Media better get real on the Birther issue...and stop attacking Birthers/supporting Obama

Those are pretty good numbers for Trump in such a short period of time.

More proof that if the GOP attacks the Birthers...they will be slaughtered in 2012

People are stupid and short term thinkers.

Either way, I’d sit out the election

I think sitting out an election and giving a Marxist aother four years is beyond stupid. But first things first - we need to get thru the primaries and all candidates have not announced. It is not over yet.

Is Trump a conservative? I doubt it. But he has backbone, and that is something sorely lacking from most republican politicians.

We need a conservative with conviction not a used car salesman and a celebutard

A lot of these very early polls simply reflect a potential candidate's name recognition. Trump has that. I think Trump may run (he can easily finance himself) but he won't get far. Trump, despite his newly-made 'conservative' mask, he is a liberal and will not be taken seriously enough for Republican voters to waste their primary vote on a guy that may be entertaining to watch occasionally but really does not connect with most Americans in a way that will win primary elections.

Of course, I could be wrong. This time in 2007 I was positive that Hillary Clinton would be the 2008 Democrat presidential nominee. Things change.

I agree entirely. Trump will have done us all a favor if he runs off Romney. We can worry about Trump later. Meanwhile, with him in, it would be a popcorn season until someone emerges to sideline all the rest. So far, and sadly, it all still looks like theatre on our side.

We need a dragon slayer who can attract, trick or get the Independent vote, which will decide this race.

Donald won’t run but he knows how to initiate a debate. He’ll do well with Fox.

This time in 2007 I was positive that Hillary Clinton would be the 2008 Democrat presidential nominee.

She would have been if the Chicago mob hadn't showed her the proof they had regarding Ron Brown & Vincent Foster.

She was given an offer she couldn't refuse.

This is looking too much like the 1991 elections where Ross Perot was the spoiler that got Clinton elected. Hopefully I’m wrong on that but I would hate to see the O get elected again simply because some rich guy comes in and splits the republican vote. Not that any of the Republican candidates are much better but they are at least a little better than O.

I don’t think that by 2012 it will make much difference either way though as by then I think that the frog (US economy) will have been boiled.

You have to look at Trump’s strategery. The only thing combed over about him is his hair. He is articulate, sticks to message, kicks the media’s butt and won’t back off from anyone. I won’t pass judgment on his morals or lack thereof, but these are extraordinary times where people will overlook alot of shortcomings if they buy into someone’s rhetoric. And the lack of balls of these other candidates makes them unelectable at this point. They generate little or no excitement and are quite frankly in the Bush league.

People need to start sending him money because he’s not going to spend a dime of his own money.

Polls at this point mean nothing - especially polls with two candidates both in the 20s, regardless of the spread.
