The far left has attempted to portray their elderly hero, Frances Fox Piven, as a lonely shut-in who spends her time knitting mittens and eating Werther’s Originals in her New York apartment.
But the truth is that age has not dampened Piven’s appetite for radical socialist political activities.
Piven, an academic who is still on the board of ACORN-partner Project Vote, has announced that she will be co-hosting a 1960s-style “teach-in” April 5th, and she’s bringing in some heavy hitters.
The national event, which will be simulcast, will also feature fellow socialist professor Cornel West and AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka. SEIU is also participating.
At the recent Left Forum, where Piven greeted attendees as “comrades,” she explained “a few practical steps” protesters could take in order to fight back against capitalism. See her speech here.
They include demonstrations or sit-ins at banks, “fights over the public sector,” (whatever that means), and protests against home foreclosures. She explained that all of these tactics are part of the fight against the “corporate campaign to take down America.”
For the teach-ins, several “content themes” are suggested.
It’s obvious that Piven has not retired. She is still very much on the front line of the effort to protect government employees from having to make any sort of financial concessions. Her message remains very timely in some circles, like rabid Wisconsin labor types who crawl through windows of government buildings and block citizens from signing recall petitions against liberal lawmakers.
Piven has been, and continues to be, a warrior for socialism
Will her 60s-style teach-in make any difference to anyone? I doubt it, but Piven and her comrades still merit the public’s attention. It’s useful to know that there are still Marxists out there who are willing to cheat in elections and disrupt business activities to make their point.
Time has literally left them behind, but their tactics should still be of concern.
They need to be exposed, if for no other reason than to remind the mainstream media that radicals still exist, and will go to any extreme to get their point across.
Yeah. A multi-millionaire holding a teach-in to rail against capitalism. What a joke she is. This is American communism: you will live like peasants while we, your masters, will live like Soviet commisars.
Wow. A Socialist/Communist extravaganza. I’m afraid that I will be busy doing my laundry. The Leftists running this country are destroying it. I hope we can save the USA before it’s too late.
What is it like to be a nasty 78 year old moon bat commie seeing how her ideas have spread? She is overjoyed at the recent chaos in Wisconsin. Very pumped up and re-energized
For her and her type "puplic sector" is anything you consider yours, i.e., your money, your freedom of choice, basicly, your life.
....Now we learn that three other prominent activists will join the teach-in.
Jeffrey Sachs One of the most dangerous socialists on the world stage. Sachs is Director of the UN Millennium Project and is Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. He is also the Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University. Sachs is a long time beneficiary of funding from George Soros-controlled organizations. Sachs addresses the Party of European Socialists in Prague, Czech Republic, 6-7 December 2009, calling for higher taxes in the U.S. and worldwide re-distribution of wealth.
Heather McGhee Washington office chief of Demos, a radical New York think tank closely tied to Democratic Socialists of America and the far left Institute for Policy Studies. Barack Obama was a founding board member of Demos in the early 2000s, while Obamas one time Green Jobs Czar and former communist Van Jones served on the board of Demos a few years later.
Richard Trumka President of the left dominated AFL-CIO and a long time affiliate of Democratic Socialists of America. Poul Rasmussen, leader of the Party of European Socialists and co-chair of the Global Progressive Forum has described Trumka as one of the most progressive people in the United States of America.
This is a big deal.
Five of the most influential socialists in the country are inciting thousands of young college age activists to take to the streets of America.

A couple of your heroes, perhaps? Will you be attending?
That’s a very well considered toupee he’s wearing. It hardly looks like a dead, furry critter curled up on top of his head at all. Must be one of those natural human hair rigs.

exactly. when will 1 ‘journalist’ ask these people where they live or how many homes they have or how much their net worth is and when can we expect them to divide that worth to share with those less fortunate?? They’re all hypocrites. How many teachers/police/firemen and women are millionaires?? Average Americans need to wake up...these people are only out to help themselves.
For God’s sake America...WAKE UP!
The old fool and the fat tool.
Interesting that under this “teach in” content theme (link in article)for their anti-corporation portion, PBS programs is listed twice as source material.
No bias there on behalf of PBS.

Poor sound...
Cornell West was a rich boy. There was plenty of his parent’s money floating around to get him out of trouble when he was arrested and charged with beating up a pregnant teacher when he was in high school.
Matter of fact, he has been a hypocrite on poverty and race his entire life. He wants “social justice” as long as his money and life style isn’t touched.
