Nine people have been killed in the Afghan city of Kandahar during a demonstration against the burning of a Koran in the US, officials say.
Hundreds of people took part in the protest. Gunfire was heard and cars were set on fire.
On Friday, seven UN workers were killed after a protest over the same issue in the northern city of Mazar-i Sharif......
A large and very angry crowd surged through the streets of Kandahar chanting "They have insulted our Koran" and "Death to America," the BBC's Paul Wood reports from Kabul.......

Someone should explain to these people how weak it makes their god appear when he, or she, has to depend on mere mortals for protection. I would not want to worship or serve a god who was so weak that I had to be constantly getting all riled up and having to defend. Honestly, how much good can such a god do you when the chips are down? If I’m going to be depended upon to protect this being then I might as well rely on myself and just eliminate the middle man, god.

Mohammed wrote the best book ever for encouraging young men to die for a sexual god - I mean read the damnable book - read it and you too will want to burn it. It is full of horrific admonitions to behead and kill those who offend this sexual god allah. Young men are titillated to think that killing enemies of this false god will get them all kinds of sexual pleasures. This so called religion is nothing more than a pretext to treat women as sexual objects by violent men who wish to show their manhood in bizzarre and violent ways. I say burn their book and when they behead people for this god, burn them.

Afghan women are viewed as good intelligence sources, and more open to the basics of the military’s hearts-and-minds effort — hygiene, education and an end to the violence.
