In a new interview with the BBC, Ron Reagan, Jr., son of the late president, called his father "a fetish object for the far right." Expanding on his point, the younger Reagan calls President Ronald Reagan "sort of the rubber bustier of the far right."
Reagan Jr.'s remarks came when the BBC's Matt Frei asked him, "Are you happy the way [Ronald Reagan] is remembered in this country, especially by the conservatives?"
"Oh, I just think it's inevitable," Reagan Jr. responded. "Who else are they going to remember that way? Richard Nixon? I don't think so. Warren Harding? Maybe. But he is a fetish object for the far right, he's sort of the rubber bustier of the far right -- you know, they all have to go and touch him, as it were."

There’s something about the boy that’s not quite right. He seems to be a perennial adolescent.

There was an old radio DJ in the 60s and 70s that used to say, “Here’s a song by Sal Minneo, such a nice looking man, isn’t it a shame that he never married.”

Ronnie Prescott (not worthy of his father’s surname) has as much worth as a discarded, crushed styrofoam cup in a stockyard.

What a load of gibberish. Nobody (normal) "fetishized" Reagan. They loved him because he made us as proud of America as he was. Nobody fetishized Nixon, because even though he was an anti-communist, he was a kooky liberal on social issues and a disgrace to the office. And how many living people would even think about Harding? There's probably only a couple of dozen people who were even alive as adults during Harding's presidency. Now Calvin Coolidge, that guy was fantastic.
Interesting that Ron Reagan is a liberal. Were he a conservative, he could have risen to unprecedented heights in politics. Instead he's an annoying little gnat that nobody (even his fellow liberals) takes seriously.

The above from your post struck me as particularly insightful. You are absolutely right.

“President Reagan is the best president of the last 100 years at least. 70 years takes us back to FDR”
Good point. I was thinking of the best president since WWII since that is the era of the modern presidency. But if you want to find a president who was comparable to or better than Reagan you would have to go back to Theodore Roosevelt.
