You might expect that the man who is incoming president of the National Rifle Association and was chairman of the American Conservative Union would be a double-barrel ideologue.
Not quite.
David Keenes friends include liberal-leaning types like Al Hunt of Bloomberg News, former ABC correspondent Sam Donaldson, former New York Times reporter Adam Clymer, and former Democratic presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy.
Keene never hesitates to mention that his mother and father were labor union organizers in Wisconsin or that, as a teenager, he passed out literature for John F. Kennedy during the presidential primary.
Moreover, Keene has stood firm against attacks from within the conservative movement over his decision to keep the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) open to participation by such groups as GOProud, an organization of conservative gays.

after backing Harry Reid and other Democrats I am done with NRA.
The NRA has scored excellent legislative victories in creating Gun Control.
So you can misplace the blame and start pointing to straw men like the GOA or any other gun group.
But, the blame lays squarely at the feet of the NRA leadership.
Keane is a liberal. He just got done supporting Sen. Arlen Spector’s failed re-election campaign.
Just like Wayne La Pierre supported Democrat candidates like Sen. Harry Reid and Rep John Murtha.
Also, Keane was behind the “Disclose Act” debacle that caused many NRA members to quit.
Not all democrats are hard core leftists and lots of them believe in the second amendment but are torn by the politicization of the issue. I think good can come of it if it gets democrats defending the cause too. Like I say, we’ll have to watch this Keene closely.
ahhhh...it’s good to know that the board has chosen a good ruling class member to lead us proles around...wouldn’t want anybody who believed in solid principles leading the NRA, now would we?
What are you talking about? The NRA has cored victory after victory after victory. What has the GOA done? The NRA has 4.2 million members. You won't be missed.
Isn’t he friends with muslim cheerleader and POS Grover Norquist?
Can’t have that, no.
Great recruting tool! Many of us are getting the message loud and clear too. After 25 or more years, my check ain't in the mail.
oops
“...Not all democrats are hard core leftists and lots of them believe in the second amendment...”
...and yet they still queue up like Good Little Komrade Apparatchniks and pull “D” lever on election day...
You can’t support those b*stards without supporting what they stand for, and what they are doing, to the country.
Same goes for RINOs.
Just like Wayne La Pierre supported Democrat candidates like Sen. Harry Reid ...
This is exactly why I am letting my present NRA membership lapse in a few days (March 31, 2011).
By supporting Reid and other democrats, La Pierre helped in allowing the U.S. Senate to remain in democrat hands. If you have forgotten, it is the U.S. Senate that confirms all federal judges so from my point of view this is akin to shooting oneself in the foot. Sayonara NRA.
As for your comment to another poster, "You won't be missed", please explain for me then why the repeated nightly phone calls as to renewing my NRA membership? And, what about the deluge of renewal mailings, which thankfully, have become less frequent?
Why don’t the members take a stand against him?
Here’s a FRiendly challenge for you: name for me one dhimmicrat who is unabashedly pro-2nd amendment. Just to show how clouded the issues is, I’ll spot you one that the NRA considers a “friend”: Harry “dingy” Reid.
I don’t know about you but his sort is the last guy I want on “my team”.
I know a number of leftists who pay lip-service to 2nd Amendment rights issues and they do so for one reason - to keep their jobs. one its own as an issue they demonstrably don’t GAS about our rights.
I applaud your open-mindedness but my problem (and I do admit that it is my problem) is that it’s difficult for me to extend too much faith in people that I have to constantly watch to ensure that they’re not stealing the silverware.
Maybe the "members" are really just "donors," and "window-dressing"?
Bye Bye!
but but but if you leave you’re gonna miss out on their book club, wine tasting parties, and vacation cruises. Why am I getting the feeling that the NRA joined forces with AARP?
