I had heard that about him, too...that he was a kind and gentle man. Not many actors can have that said about them!
Speaking of actors..
I was watching some Laugh-In reruns..
They had Henry Gibson come out with his over-sized flower to say a silly poem..
Then John Wayne came out with a giant red white and blue flower and said:
“They sky is blue
the grass is green
now get off your butt,
and join the Marines!”
