How Attacking Libya Sets Legal Precedent for U.N. Action Against Israel

How can Barack Obama’s addle-brained move to bomb rebels civilians for a few days weeks months to remove Gaddafi, or not have implications for Israel?

Following up on my weekend article about how the decision to attack Gaddafi was made under pressure from Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and Samantha Power, and the “new” U.N. standard of “R2P” or “Right to Protect” as a standard for military conflict…. Frank Gaffney has much more on this troubling legal precedent which could create a “legal” justification for military action against Israel……someday.

UN intervention into Libya an ominous precedent for Israel

Center for Security Policy | Mar 21, 2011 By Frank Gaffney, Jr.

There are many reasons to be worried about the bridge-leap the Obama Administration has just undertaken in its war with Muammar Gaddafi. How it will all end is just one of them.

Particularly concerning is the prospect that what we might call the Gaddafi Precedent will be used in the not-to-distant future to justify and threaten the use of U.S. military forces against an American ally: Israel.

Here’s how such a seemingly impossible scenario might eventuate:

It begins with the Palestinian Authority seeking a UN Security Council resolution that would recognize its unilateral declaration of statehood. Three top female officials in the Obama administration reprise roles they played in the Council’s recent action on Libya: U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, a vehement critic of Israel, urges that the United States support (or at least not veto) the Palestinians’ gambit. She is supported by the senior director for multilateral affairs at the National Security Council, Samantha Power, who in the past argued for landing a “mammoth force” of American troops to protect the Palestinians from Israel.

So President Palin will have a precedent to attack and neutralize Iran? Sweet!

It'll never happen for the simple fact that when properly led and unleashed, the Israeli armed forces are world class and would give as good as it would get. Can anyone even imagine the prospect of the USN/USAF dogfighting the IAF?

Didn’t 70%+ American Jews vote for this in Nov 2008? They still love him too and hate Bush.

Frank Gaffney is no fool and very well-versed in these matters so I take his prediction seriously, especially in light of Obama's obvious disdain for the existence of the state of Israel. This is just another reason Obama has to be defeated in 2012 and that the senate has to gain a conservative Republican majority. This prediction cannot be allowed to come true - ever.

Obama set a precedent by placing the U.S. in a subordinate role in carrying out the dictates of the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League, without consulting Congress in any meaningful way regarding Libya. Now the stage is set for a U.N. Security Council vote to grant Palestine statehood. Once that happens, and the U.N. again dictates the need for military support to protect Palestine from “aggressor” Israel, we will see U.S. troops in Palestine under U.N. orders to shoot at Israeli troops. This is the eight hundred pound elephant that was in the room all day today at the EIB network yet Limbaugh very carefully avoided the issue. Must be taking lessons from O’Reilly.

It’s an ominous precedent for the USA, as well. Imagine if our only option left was civil insurrection against the commies and leftist radicals in DC. That means the UN could send in foreign fighters to help Obama and to quell our resistance to being fundamentally transformed into another 3rd world commie cesspool.

According to the scenario from the article, the US would abstain from the UN vote, then fall in line to organize and enforce a vote in which they refused to participate. That seems unlikely.

And look at this like that:
In 1978, Iran was friend of US. Wasn it? It took only 24 months to became worst enemy of US.

Also only 3 months ago, Sarkozy, Clinton (Hillary) and others were kissing Gaddafis ass.

Truo, also, - we Serbs never imagined that US will attack us and steal part of our territory- It took only 5 years- in 1989 we were allmost best freinds- and in 1994 US jets bombed Serb positions in Bosnia.

And in 10,000 years, maybe, someone can think about moving back into the Middle East.

If Gaza is immediately destroyed, the UN action will be nullified.

Gaza can be eliminated before the UN can gather the momnetum to act

” That means the UN could send in foreign fighters to help Obama and to quell our resistance...”

The UN couldn’t even take on a mob armed with clubs and machetes in Rwanda. How do you suppose they’ll do against the 2nd Marine Division and 101st Airborne?

The question is, would OUR military actually follow these orders if given. Has the new training to sensitize our Troops to their islamic brethren taken root? It started under bush. I saw it. Five pillars and all.
It was the first time I ever heard of anyone in the military citing the muslim philosophy that states “If you can’t be the best, be adequate.” It was shocking. WE are supposed to be the BEST and that was pounded into us from day one.
This training is going on in our Military Academies where our officers are trained.
