Did you miss this>

But in that time, Americans followed the dictum of Washington, Adams and Jefferson: Stay out of foreign wars.

America "goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own," said John Quincy Adams in his oration of July 4, 1821.

Lafayette came to the colonies to help in the revolution.

The French were helping themselves. But really, what does 18th century French foreign policy have to do with 21st century foreign policy? Are you suggesting we are obligated to provide military support to revolutions around the world because we sought and received help from the French, who had their own reasons for siding against the British?
