MOSCOW, March 24 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in Moscow on Thursday that Russia and Israel will face a common threat if "radical Islamist" states acquire nuclear weapons, Russian news agencies reported.
Netanyahu, whose government has urged Russia to increase pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme, spoke to Russian media bosses before talks with President Dmitry Medvedev.
"There is a now a big risk that radicalisation of Islamist regimes will begin in the Middle East," state-run Itar-Tass quoted Netanyahu as saying, according to a translation of his remarks into Russian.
"This risk is dangerous not only for Israel but (also) for Russia," Netanyahu said.
The Kremlin is fighting an uphill battle with Islamist insurgents in its mainly Muslim North Caucasus region, where rebels want to carve out a separate state with Sharia law.
A decade after separatists were driven out of power in the second of two wars in Chechnya, the North Caucasus are plagued by violence and analysts say the insurgency is gaining membership numbers and spreading in scope.
"But it will be much worse if radical Islamist regimes acquire nuclear weapons. Terror will be aimed against all. That is why the most important thing now is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons," Netanyahu was quoted as saying.

If Israel is smart they will court Russia. They cannot count on the United States.
Picture rule. All articles mentioning Netanyahu must include pictures.
why?
Because he’s beautiful.
The Bibi Picture Rule is in the Official Free Republic Rules List, right after the Ann Coulter Picture Rule and the Catherine Zeta-Jones Picture Rule.
Thank you very much.
Russia will say one thing and then do the other. There’s money to be made selling nukes to Iran and elsewhere. Israel is peeing in the wind trying to cozy up to the Russian bear.
Well cozying up to the Russian Bear, or any other bear is dangerous. They don’t have a great track record. BUT, since Obama is a reflection of the American voter, his election must scare the pants off of Israel, and the rest of the Western World for that matter.
I know, and you know that a whole lot of other stuff went into electing Obama. Race, McCain, 12 years of corrupt Republican government of the country. Never the less it has to be sobering to the Israeli government that we are festering...err fostering such left wing fools in this country. Still worst they are electable. Even more stunning to Israel is the American Jewish community financed and supported him. So what are they to do? We are forcing Israel to seek other partners. We lose. They lose. Israel has by necessity relied on support from the United States (and it’s Western European Clients to use a cold war model) for survival. But times they are changing. It is like the decline of the Byzantine Empire. All the old alliances are failing. We don’t know who our friends are and we don’t know how to play our enemies off against each other any more. What I wouldn’t give for a giant inter-arab war. Give the savages something to do other than go after Israel.
IMO Russia proved to be a more reliable ally than America but it has nothing with latest Israel’s diplomacy towards Russia.
Bibi is playing a trailer trash whore here.
It is like she (Bibi) is sending a message to her boyfriend (America): pay attention to me or I’ll get laid with that hick (Russia).
