‘Operation Odyssey Dawn’

What is that?

According to M-W an odyssey is: a long wandering or voyage usually marked by many changes of fortune

Isn't an odyssey dawn the start of a long, wandering trip or voyage with no end in sight?

Gonna be a looooooooong war.

These putzheads got NO idea what they're doing.

Some hope and change.

You know if hussein obama was right, had a valid reason for getting involved militarily in Libya, and had a backbone he’d stay the course, finishing the job. However, with international “support” for the ... whatever it is ... fading, look for zero to back out as fast as his spin-doctors can come up with a semi-believable way to say “mission accomplished.”

Obama will be addressing the nation pretty soon to explain what is going on. Oh wait, is this thread about Libya? I thought it was about NCAA Basketball. Nevermind.

China, Russia, etc., abstain from voting during Security Council votes then start whining about the action they didn’t vote against

Their official position is that they don't mind "protecting civilians" as the UN resolution states, but they think that bombing from afar is not working to protect them.

I believe they would have said nothing if only NATO sent airplanes to patrol the skies and shoot down anything that flies without permission. Similarly, any AA site that fires upon NATO would be destroyed. This is how it was done in Iraq, for many years. Saddam was completely denied the air, but there was basically no damage to ground forces or civilians.

The Arab League has the same complaint, by the way:

Moussa said the Arab League’s approval of a no-fly zone on March 12 was based on a desire to prevent Moammar Gaddafi’s air force from attacking civilians and was not designed to endorse the intense bombing and missile attacks — including on Tripoli, the capital, and on Libyan ground forces

(as seen here.) And certainly the UN resolution said nothing about targeting and killing Gaddafi or his family (which appears to have happened.) In other words, the generals used a lot of force, and they reportedly selected targets that you select in a major war, not in a police action, especially when you are not at war with the country.

Here is one rambling interview given by a general that is responsible for the area. I'm not sure that he is competent to give interviews in real time, or even to talk to anyone.

What in the world does failure to lead have to do with starting an illegal war and killing people illegally.

“What in the world does failure to lead have to do with starting an illegal war and killing people illegally.”

If Obama knew how to lead himself much-less others out of a cardboard box he would be more successful at it.

Perhaps this observation is an indictment of President Obama, but it is just as much an indictment of our Constitutional system or lack thereof.

Well, he’s not doing a very good job of illegally killing people. He’s trying to get out of it before it has really begun and, predictably, that’s causing a stamped for the door.

It seems pretty obvious to even a casual observer that this thing escalated almost immediately from “enforcing the UN approved no-fly zone” to providing close air support for the rebels and attempted decapitation strikes.

Don't they mean "Operation OwhattavI Dun?"

No I think Odyssey Dawn is the perfect name.

Odyssey = 10 year long Epic Fail in the Mediterranean during which the commander loses all his ships, men, and treasure. Only to return and find that his kingdom has been looted and other men have moved in on his wife.

Dawn = It is dawning on our service men that they are in for a 10 year long Epic Fail in the Mediterranean during which they are likely to lose all their ships, men, and treasure.
