Twitter BReaking news - RIP Elizabeth Taylor.
Several news organizations confirming.
Carlo Ponti died in 2007.
One year in the very early ‘90’s, I was at a Dallas Cowboys/Washington Redskins game at Texas Stadium. For the coin toss, Jerry Jones drove Elizabeth Taylor out to the star. The ref told her to call it. His mike was on and it caugth one of the Redskin captains telling him that that was their job, not hers. One of the funnier things I’ve seen at Texas Stadium. The ref had to be star-struck and nervous with her on the field.
That was the only time I ever saw her. Got a couple of decent pix. She looked good even back then. R.I.P.
Liz Taylor was never running for or held public office, and she never represented, nor presumed to represent, anyone or anything but herself.
Gingrich, as much as I have appreciated his vision (though his purchase of the Global Warming hooey forfeited the real regard I had for his supposed great intelligence), WAS, as part of his job, for Pete's sake, representing a group of people and a political philosophy where respect for "family values" (a term I am coming to hate and despise) as in honoring wedding vows, is a major principle for most of them.
THAT's why she gets a pass.
Funny story about Liz....after she’d been in a couple of films as a teenager, she was given a part in another movie where she was supposed to swim. Problem is...she didn’t know how. So, the studio brought another one of their stars, “the mermaid” Esther Williams to teach her how.
Supposedly, when Esther met Liz, she took one look at Liz’ somewhat-ample chest and said “Honey, with pontoons like those, you could just float.”
THAT’s why she gets a pass.
Me too, Borges. A relative of mine who worked on the trial and was there for every moment, and who is not a Jackson fan and certainly no bleeding heart, told me that the whole thing was sad, sad, sad. Jackson was eccentric, emotionally vulnterable, asexual -- essentially, non-sexual (personally, I think he was a eunuch), and naive.
My relative thought the accusations were false and made by greedy cons, and that Jackson was plenty weird but hardly a child predator, though construed to be. This was the conclusion the relative came to after being part of every day of the public trial.
Here’s a photo album. Her graduation pic et al.

You just nailed why she is so great in that movie -- her character, Leslie is tough as nails, hard as stone, strong as iron, and as forceful as flowing river. Yet Leslie is first and foremost 100 percent gentle female; she is soft, beautiful, delicate, and infinitely feminine.
I never recognized it until reading your comment. Not a lot of women can pull off being strong without also coming across as a tad masculine. Taylor was always the apex of sweet, gentle femininity.
R.I.P. She was one of my Mom’s fav. She was a beauty.
One can hope she had a saving faith in Jesus Christ, at the end....if she is to rest in the peace that eluded her here.
Blue eyes are odd that way -- it is totally dependent on the lighting. On an overcast day, my eyes are greyish blue. On a sunny day, they are much more blue, almost a cold sky blue. My dad's eyes are literally the color of a robin's egg, and only rarely do they take on a gray cast. Three of my four blue-eyed brothers have much darker blue eyes that (depending on the lighting and weather) can range from nearly navy (which looks close to brown in a photo) to a medium-dark blue; the other brother has blue eys that are closer to aqua in color and never look grey, even in overcast weather. I have a sister in law whose eyes are practically turquoise, and no matter the weather or what color she is wearing, they ALWAYS look turquoise.
It's just the nature of blue eyes.
tioga was quoting Liz own words... verbatim.....no confusion there.
STOP IT MA’THA...
my fav picture. Few actresses made films as good or as bad. RIP, Liz.
Yes. But that day was many moons ago. Many.
And it’s so right and reasonable that the great James Dean (as sexy Jett Rink) is gobsmacked by Liz. Personally, if I were “Leslie,” I would have dumped “Bick Benedict” real quick and taken up with “Jett”!
She thought Jackson was innocenet. Lots of people still do.
