Is the traditional 100-watt incandescent light bulb about to go the way of the Tyrannosaurus Rex?
Some Republicans on Capitol Hill hope not.
They want to overturn the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, signed by then-President George W. Bush. The law requires all 100-watt incandescent light bulbs to be almost 30-percent more energy efficient by Jan. 1, 2012.
Since that means higher production costs, manufacturers in America have stopped making the traditional bulbs. Some consumers have already started stockpiling the old-model bulbs, complaining that the replacements cast a unattractive light compared to the warmth of incandescent bulbs.
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul told an administration official at a recent hearing that it's "insulting" for the government to tell consumers what light bulbs they can buy, because the government believes it know[s] whats best for me.
South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint said in a statement that, "Americans are fully capable of choosing the best way to light their own homes and what best fits the needs and budget of their families ... it's clear the 'nanny state' mentality has gotten out of control in Washington."

Just another infringement on our rights that we can thank that “Conservative” bush2 for.
“Ive started stockpiling. Every time I go to the grocery store for anything I drop a buck for 4 Edison bulbs.”
So have I. Just bought a 4-pack the other day . . . and try to do that every time I shop. I’ll be damned if these ba$tards are going to remove these from my house.
“I’ll give you my incandescent light bulbs when you pry them from my warmed, dead hands!”
A blessing in disguise. But we have to let our fearless leaders know.
Dear delusional Democrat,
I am writing to let you know that since (insert product here In this case 100 watt light bulbs) has/have become the bane of your existence, I will need to replace it with two of your new XX watt replacements to get the same amount of light. I refuse to do with less. Since the resulting total power consumption is greater than that of the single 100 watt bulb (and note I will have to repeat this process for each 100 watt bulb I must replace in my home and garage) and since you can multiply this result by 50 million families like mine, you will soon be faced with your own Democrat voters screaming at you due to an overloaded power grid and extended rolling blackouts (at best).
Since you will no doubt continue to block every avenue that America has to cheap, abundant power due to your headlong rush into Soviet mimicry, we conservative types won’t even have to lift a finger as your own base ejects you from your current (no pun intended) seats once the blackouts start disrupting their lives. They elect representatives who will take an ‘all of the above’ approach to energy.
Simple really.
Ah...to dream.
What is going to happen to all these lightbulbs when the Big One happens in California?
Could these light bulbs be considere as a weapon of mass destruction.
Will they be allowed to be used in school science projects? Will the whole school have to be evacuated if one drops to the floor?
Will a hotel have to be evacuated if a maid drops a light blub?
It's time to turn the lights out on this one.
How are little girls to bake cookies in their Mattel ovens? I seem to remember that the heat came from light bulbs.
Good one. I’d forgotten all about them and our daughter had one many years ago:)
HOORAY! Grow a backbone you spineless, totalitarian-wannabe RINOS.
“How are little girls to bake cookies in their Mattel ovens? I seem to remember that the heat came from light bulbs.”
Girls aren’t taught to cook any more.
The feminists took care of that.
Just wondering how they would reply?
Guess it depends upon where you live?
Just imagine one dropped in a school.
I can imagine kids will carry them to school just to throw them in the assembly area.
If 30 or 40 of these things are thrown into a crowd and broken, or a building..everyone will freak out....
...no matter that we used to carry mercury around in our hands and "shine up" dimes with it...
Light bulbs, toilets and washing machines. The laws of physics don’t apply in this country.
Only Americans will allow food, corn, to be burned for fuel.
That fuel causes a drop in miles per gallon of 15%.
Burning of corn mixture causes corn prices to go above $7 a bushel raising the price of food for the Middle East. That is what caused the unrest and riots. That is what is causing gasoline prices to spike.
With all that, our elected RINO’s are worried about what kind of light bulb we can buy.
Americans, we have stupid on our forehead.
Maybe they can work on that DDT thingy as well. Talk about politicians following bad science and causing harm...
They do not go with traditional furniture.
They fade picture that are hung on the wall.
Flourescent lighting cause psychological problems and epilepsy in children in schools.
I hear you— it disgusts me, seriously talking in Congress about lightbulbs with Obama and his Lybia war going on.....
GOP has been calling me I am sure for a donation, I just hang up. Next time, I am taking the call and going to tell them to stick their lighbulb legislation up their well..you know...maybe they will see the light then...
They do have dimmable (if thats how you spell it) florescents, but they work poorly. I had one that would not fire up at all. The ones we do have are tricky to set to the level you want. They dim too quickly.
Someone has finally awakened to the impending stupidity.
Repeal this foolish law.
Try? That is not good enough. Just do it.
at least I know some others are pissed off too.
Lightbulbs while he is on vacation with freeloading mother in law and mother in law takes her friend
Petrobas and Soros are happy with this deal which will be done with our money.
illegal war and the GOP cannot demand he get back here.
debt, economy , Japan, middle east, North Africa, etc etc etc
and the GOP talks about light bulbs,
I can imagine the obama’s with their neighbor hood in the white house or on airforce one getting freebies and laughing at us
The GOP think we’re a joke and do lightbulb bills
It’s a slap in our faces
