(Vanity) Anyone doing anything special to celebrate the 100th Birthday of the 1911? (March 29)

Posted on 03/22/2011 5:26:59 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

The 100th anniversary of John Moses Browning's work of brilliance is March 29th. The gun which won WWI, WWII, Korea, was in Vietnam, and is still to this day one of the most popular platforms for guns.

Curious what things, if any, people were doing to celebrate this work of brilliance/art.

I am putting time aside that day to get out to shoot mine.

I think I’ll clean my .45 next week and give a thought to the anniversary.

I’m kind of hoping my backorder on the new Keltec PMR 30 fills by the 29th. Now that would be a reason to celebrate. I have had it on order since October. I’d love to be over at Bullseye shooting it on the 29th.

After many delays it looks like I will finally get some money from an inheritance this month. Because of the real estate market being so bad, we took much less than the property was worth. Still I will finally be able to buy a few things I have been putting off.

One of them will be a 1911. Not sure which one I will get yet. Price will have a big impact. I look back on some I have had in the past and probably will never have another quite as good.

I really want a Colt made and I don’t really care which model. I would settle for a lot of others tho.

Been saving up and reloading ammo and plan to burn about 500 rounds.

If that doesn't help me, I have several more.

Contained in a report from a Marine in Afghanistan.

“The .45 pistol: Thumbs up. Still the best pistol around out there. Everybody authorized to carry a sidearm is trying to get their hands on one. With few exceptions, one can reliably be expected to put ‘em down with a torso hit. The special ops guys (who are doing most of the pistol work) use the HK military model and supposedly love it.. The old government model.45’s are being re-issued en masse.”

I have to work on the 29th, but I’ll probably head up to Knob Creek on the 30th. I bought a Marlin 30-30 last year, but haven’t had an opportunity to zero her in yet. While I’m up there, I’ll also run a couple of magazines through my 1911.

That's the funniest thing I have read in a long time, and yes, I have done that.

Does a Swiss model 1911 Schmidt-Rubin rifle count?

Start with the Remington Rand, finish with the Kimber. All of their brothers in between will get a good using and cleaning too.
