Palin: I could have brought change in '08
By Jordan Fabian - 03/19/11 12:52 PM ET
Republicans would have been more successful in the 2008 presidential elections if she was at the top of the ticket, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin suggested Saturday.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi, Palin was asked why the GOP ticket did not defeat then-Sen. Barack Obama (D). Palin said that Obama ran a strong campaign and effectively billed himself as a change candidate.
Pressed by India Today editor Aroon Purie that she also represented change, Palin replied, "I wasn't at the top of the ticket, remember?"
The 2008 vice presidential nominee said she was not claiming she should have been the nominee over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), but her comments provide a glimpse of her potential appeal to voters should she choose to run for the nomination in 2012.
Palin reiterated that she has not yet decided is she will run.
"I don't think that there needs to be a rush still to get out there as a declared candidate," she said.
When asked about the greatest lessons she learned from 2008, Palin did not mention the friction between McCain's camp and hers. Instead she said the experience informed her public relations strategy.
"One thing I learned is that you cannot trust the mainstream media to accurately report on [your record and accomplishments]," she said. "You have to have the boldness, the courage to set the record straight yourself."
She even accused Republicans of not defending their records vigorously enough.
"Too often, Republicans have the fighting instinct of sheep sometimes," she said. When it comes to correcting the record, "I will put my foot down."
Rebutting a criticism often used against her, Palin said, "It's not victimization, I'm not playing the victim card."
Palin also touted her role as a key figure in the Tea Party movement, saying that it helps enforce accountability amongst politicians on both sides of the aisle.
"It's going to grow, it's going to be more influential and it's going to hold our politicians accountable," she said.
Palin even compared the Tea Party movement to the pro-democratic uprisings that have sprouted up across the Middle East.
The Tea Party is "all about empowerment of everyday, independent patriots ... to change the balance of power," she said. "The changing balance of power throughout the world today is driven by empowerment of the individual ... That's what we are seeing throughout the world today."
So, you've decided to change tactics, since you can't browbeat me with the LOST letter? I have posted a vanity on the latter, asking for help from FReepers who are experts in international law and treaties. We will find out.
And no, Sarah Palin is not an oathbreaker. She is not saying that states accord rights. It is disingenuous for you to suggest that.
Pretty much exactly in line with the usual McCain Republican talking points.
There isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between her position and McCain’s. He says he doesn’t support amnesty too.
Do you know anyone who believes him?
All they’ve done is play with words. But a pathway to citizenship IS amnesty. Every thinking conservative knows this.
Nice try. No proof of a special path to citizenship here.
And notice at the end, she says immigrants needs to "follow the rules". In other words, "Get in line".
You're just throwing things up against the wall to see what sticks.
There's nothing else to say about it. She supports it. Conservatives, in other words those who care about our national sovereignty, don't.
********************************
Despite that the wait seems endless, I think she's making the right decision here.
No. I'm simply giving you her own words, and watching you try to deny them. It would be rather entertaining if it wasn't so sad, and indicative of such a serious widespread problem within what is called conservatism.
Thanks for jumping in, guys. I was starting to feel a little alone in the battle.
Really? Then why didn't you deny her other words, the ones curth posted? The ones that seem to state a position 180 degrees from your assertions about her (amnesty queen)?
You try to make yourself out to be neutral and above the fray and fact based, when in truth you are just another Palin hater using any weapon you have against her, and giving her absolutely no benefit of the doubt.
His inability to highlight her clear and consistant anti-illegal immigration stance is telling. He doesn't credit her for being the first major conservative figure to jump in on the side of Gov Jan Brewer. She has consistently defended Arizona on the new law, and she has consistently said we have to stop illegal immigration now.
He's just a party hack and will go to great lengths to tear down others to bolster his party.
How so? To say that this is "up to the states" is to say that if they so choose they can allow abortion. That means the most important right of all is alienable, not unalienable.
And it's a violation of explicit imperative constitutional requirements as well.
"No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law.""No State shall deprive any person of life without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
Her position is also in direct conflict with her own party's platform, which has contained the Reagan pro-life plank since 1984, which recognizes the personhood of unborn children and their protection by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Seems she caused him grief with her policies as Gov prior to her nomination.
Really? So is he an AK resident? Can you point me to a specific thread?
Interview with Lars Larson on 12/3/09:
LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?
SARAH PALIN: No, Im not for amnesty. Lets ratchet this down quite simply to remember what were referring to. Illegal aliens are called illegal for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty. And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if theyre not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.
My agenda is nothing like pissant's. That's just silly. For God's sake, he was banned after a day-long argument with me over core conservative principles, the principles I am advocating here and have always advocated on FR for over a decade.
Whether they should get out is not the question. The question is whether her policies would force them to get out.
Can you point us to a link that shows her calling for the deportation of all foreign nationals who have entered our country illegally?
I would have to muddle through a great many posts, but I will try.
Your self-centered streak is showing. pissant's zot had to do with his nasty mouth, not his discussion with you.
It's easy to pretend you're in the arena and criticize when you can't even muster 1/4% of the conservative population to vote for your candidate.
Is EV a big shot in the Libertarian Party? What party?
