Neither here nor there, no way to prove it either however, I have a friend who’s an engineer, he says California won’t drop into the ocean...but Southern California will move up and be neighbors with San Francisco.

That may be kind of fun!

Mary, Mary, come with me,
On a hill we'll take some tea,
And watch L.A. fall in the sea.

What would really seem to matter is how close to slipping a particular fault already is. As tidal stresses peak if the fault threshold is higher, nothing happens. If it is lower something happens...

What I really hate is that mainstream scientists reject all these claims as there is no logical reason for it. Since we know there is no changes in magnetic fields, the electromagnetic spectrum, radiation levels etc. scientists assume that means there is no mechanism for which animals could sense anything. (as we are so smart and can't sense or detect it, it must no be there)

These same scientists are the same people who deny all claims by cryptozoology and anything outside the mainstream. They have become what the Catholic Church was hundreds of years ago.

The last earthquake we had here, about a year ago, my horse went completely bonkers for several minutes, just before and during, and I didn’t feel a thing. Only found out later we’d had one. . Animals know

I don’t know, he made it sound like the bottom part would just angle upwards. (This is silly, but he showed with his hands roughly what he was talking about, and it made sense....fwiw, he’s an engineer with the state and was eerily matter of fact when we talked about it)

It use to be that every person had animals around them, by listening to the animals it probably meant there lives were saved. It was even said during the 2004 tsunami that many birds suddenly flew inland an other animals headed for high ground.

What too many here are mistaking as California falling off the map is that the Cascadia Trench he’s referring to is off of the coast of Oregon.

http://geomaps.wr.usgs.gov/pacnw/rescasp1.html

We’ve been warned about the fact that we are due for a big one ever since I’ve lived here...almost 20 years. Personally, the only way it would affect me is with runs on the grocery stores. Where I live, there is a mountain range between me and the coast, and we are on bedrock.

If a tsunami went up the mouth of the Columbia river, Portland would be in deep trouble.

I would consider that to be earth cleansing*.

*disclaimer...I am in no way wishing and hoping for a tsunami to devastate Portland....maybe. ;o)

was there a large earthquake in SF in 94? (or do you mean the World Series one in 89?)

yes, I used to live on a lake, and in summer, when the geese flew out to stay on the water all night, you knew you were in for a peaceful night. when they flew inland off the lake for the night, a storm was coming.

I can tell from where and how my cows lay in the field when a predator is about and which one, same with sheep. And the crows, and jays etc. have different calls for bear, dogs, hawks. you just have to pay attention.

Tsunami Animals: A Sixth Sense?

Sunday, January 09, 2005
By Catherine Donaldson-Evans

By now, the stories of wild animals fleeing the deadly tsunami (search) before it struck Asia and Africa are near legendary.

There’s even been talk that the animals possess a “sixth sense” that may have saved them from the huge waves spawned by the massive 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra (search) two weeks ago.

Animal behavior experts and scientists say it’s probably overplaying it to suggest that creatures of the wild are psychic. But they do agree that animals can hear and feel things that humans can’t.”.............

We have brief but sometimes severe storms erupt over the mountains, in 1-5 minutes you’d better be inside. When the cows stay out in the rain, i dont worry, but when they head for the barn, I head for the house.

I remember watching a show on chimps, and a scientist said she was in her office and heard screaming and she thought it must be dinner time and she was right. From this she was able to determine that chimps have different screams for different things and that it just isn’t them being excited but actually a language albeit a simple one.

actually all animals have a lot of language, a lot of it is body language, eye contact or not, ears, tails, they’re pretty much comunicating all the time. they talk to us too, but most people miss it because it’s not what we are attuned to read.Ask any good horseperson. I would say my horse says “Um, this is good!” “Thank you”. “Come back, I’m scared!” “Hi, how’s it going?” “I’m allright”-— a number of rumbles in the belly, looks, nuzzles, etc. Ears pointing in a lot of directions, all mean something— pawing, tail swishing, teeth grinding, position of the head-— etc. Chimps laugh too.

A few years ago, we had major flooding here. I live about 2 miles from a very large reservoir that holds water back from flooding the city. They had the emergency flood gates up, but finally made an announcement hours ahead of time that they were going to have to start letting them down gradually before they suddenly “broke” catastrophically.

They were supposed to commence with this controlled flooding at around 12:00 midnight. I had the french door open as it was nice outside. Around 10:00 P.M., by dog suddenly ran to the door and just stood there staring for a good five minutes. Suddenly, EVERY dog in the neighborhood just went completely nuts barking and carrying on...my dog hightailed it to the bedroom closet on the second story and would not come down.

Turns out they started the release of the water early, and within about 10 minutes, I could hear it...a low rumbling sound. Now, these dogs are all pampered housepets in our neighborhood. I guarantee you that NONE of them had ever heard a massive flood or release of water prior to that night. Yet, my dog ran upstairs to the highest point in the house...she knew what it was; and judging from the cacophony in the neighborhood, all of the rest of them did as well. I'm not so sure that the various animal species don't communicate with each other...we're the only ones who don't listen...LOL!

The quake that ought to be scaring the bajeebers outta everyone is the next New Madrid quake. It will be at least as big as the next “Big One” expected here in L.A.; but, we’ll fare much better with our “Big One” than cities like Memphis will with the next New Madrid quake.

He lost his job over predicting the Loma Prieta
earthquake because the city was worried about
the impact on the big baseball game. Jim was
spot on. It’s no guaranty, but a higher probabilty.
If you’re prepared for an earthquake that
doesn’t happen...no harm. If you aren’t
prepared...it is too late.

One of Berkland’s indicators is increased reports
of missing pets in the newspaper in additional
to expected geological phenomena. The dolphins
may be offering a clue about impending events.
