This kills nuclear energy in this country for the forseeable future. No amount of reasoned arguments will overcome this and any politician who tries will be committing career suicide. I doubt even Rush’s intellectual power. will be able to turn the tide.

I don't know if it kills nuclear energy, but it does reveal that there were not adequate redundant cooling systems built into that reactor. It's 40 years old. Perhaps the new designs are better. But all designs now need to be reviewed for safety.

The CANDU reactor used exclusively in Canada, employing heavery water ( H3O ), is very safe, but GE trumped CANDU in Japan.I bet they now wish they had CANDU reactors.

My local CBS affiliate talked with someone from the local plant that has reactors from 75 and 86. They said that they were watching the situation and looking for any areas they need to improve on to make their plants safer.
