OK lets hear from the it is perfectly safe to be right outside the gate crowd. I'm not saying panic in California, but there was someone earlier who said it was perfectly safe to be within 5 miles of the plant. Seriously, the Fukushima 50 were some of the bravest people on the planet. If there was anything they could do they would stay to do it, even if it cost them their lives. The fact that they are abandoning the plant means there is nothing left to do but let it run its course.
Japan does lead the world in robotics. I wonder if they can build some kind of remote controlled Bobcat tractor with if fire hose. You would never be able to bring it back, but robots don't have relatives to worry about them.

One reactor 75% exposed
Another reactor 35% exposed
No one can go back because too much radiation
I hope the wind blows away from Tokyo. This is not good. Am I missing something?
To: Defend Liberty

Maybe like Chrysler workers going down to 7-11 to get booze and then go smoke some dope. No wonder the transmissions fall out of Chryslers and Dodges.

OMG lets hope this is not true!!!
Because if true prepare for the worst.
To: Frantzie
If someone says “they stopped performing CPR on the patient” it’s either because the patient’s heart is beating again on its own, or because it’s futile.
To: sand88
We’ll just have to promise to not locate 40 year old reactors on top of a fault line.

Since the reason given is a sudden surge in radiation, I doubt they abandoned because the patient got better.

This kills nuclear energy in this country for the forseeable future. No amount of reasoned arguments will overcome this and any politician who tries will be committing career suicide. I doubt even Rush’s intellectual power. will be able to turn the tide.

There’s nothing to indicate more that needs to be done now that the plants are in cold shutdown. The plants can’t heat up because there’s nothing to heat it up with.
