I'm not saying panic in California, but there was someone earlier who said it was perfectly safe to be within 5 miles of the plant. Seriously, the Fukushima 50 were some of the bravest people on the planet. If there was anything they could do they would stay to do it, even if it cost them their lives. The fact that they are abandoning the plant means there is nothing left to do but let it run its course.

Japan does lead the world in robotics. I wonder if they can build some kind of remote controlled Bobcat tractor with if fire hose. You would never be able to bring it back, but robots don't have relatives to worry about them.

There’s nothing to indicate more that needs to be done now that the plants are in cold shutdown. The plants can’t heat up because there’s nothing to heat it up with.
