DEARBORN, Mich. – Finishing law school is a challenge for Dewnya Bakri-Bazzi, but being an American and a Muslim can be downright exhausting.
As she crammed before class this week, Bakri-Bazzi caught up on testimony from a congressional hearing on the radicalization of U.S. Muslims. She contends Rep. Peter King, the New York Republican who called it, is ignoring the positive steps Muslims have taken in fighting terrorism since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Bakri-Bazzi, president of the Muslim Legal Society at Thomas M. Cooley Law School's Detroit area campus, says she fears Thursday's hearing will only spark backlash against innocent members of her community just going about their lives.
"When people look at me walking down the street, they'll feel like I'm an al-Qaida radicalist," said Bakri-Bazzi, who lives in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, home to one of the nation's largest populations of Arabs and Muslims.

Rep. King is making a seemingly laudable effort in exposing Islam and its ‘militant’ adherents in the US. For PC reasons, hardly any time has been spent by government in investigating the effect that Islam has had since it flooded into the country. In fact, Islam has been referred to as the Religion of Peace (ROP), less than a year after the WTC was destroyed by a Muslim attack. Why should we investigate a peaceful movement, right? No evidence of Islam’s serenity was ever given before or after that disingenuous statement was publicly made.
Mr. King claims that any aggressive behavior of Muslims in the US is a result of Al-Qaeda’s whisperings in the many mosques that now pollute the American skyline. Does Peter King want to bask in the political limelight or is he really that ignorant of world history? Mr. King should consider the following:
Where was AQ when the Christians in Asia Minor and North Africa were given the choice between slaughter and conversion?
Did Charles Martel have to fight AQ at the battle of Poitiers (732 AD), in order to save France from islamization?
Was it the fear for AQ that made the Europeans decide to go on the many Crusades?
Was AQ at the helm of the Muslim ships at the Battle of Lepanto?
Was it AQ that slaughtered more than a million Armenian Christians or was it the Turkish Muslims who were culpable?
Hey Peter, read the Koran and you’ll find no reference to AQ but you’ll discover the reason for Islam’s murderous aggressiveness. The answer can be found in Koranic teachings and it has nothing to do with AQ.
Congressman King, if you want to arrive at the truth of what makes Islam tick, grab the bull by the horns, not by the nuts.
Maybe, they should consider converting to a real religion of peace and learn to turn the other cheek.
You know — now that I think about it — muslim women must truly be the doormats of the world. They obviously sit by and do nothing while their sons are indoctrinated with hatred toward most of mankind. Don’t these women have any spine to stand up to what’s going on? Do they not question at ALL what is going on, or try to fight back, ever so much?
I know the punishment is harsh ...but at some point, you’ve got to dredge up some sort of resistance to such brutal treatment.

I’d like to hear more about these “innocent members” of the Dearbornistan community who are “just going about their lives” but “exhausted” over their pitiful existence in this country and the predjudice they face every day.
If you’ve been there you know that they are slowly but inexorably taking control and squeezing out everybody not like them. They value US democracy because it gives them a platform from which to pursue their objectives. For them, tolerance and understanding are one-way streets applicable only on their terms.
Much the way it is in any Islamic country they have no need for anything that does not comply with the Koran or Sharia Law. And if you happen to a Jew or a Christian you’re a target to either convert or kill.
Lady, if there’s another major attack on U.S. soil you my just look back on the good old days when 99 out 100 people treated you like anybody else.
She should try being a Christian in a Mooselip country, it’s deadly.

With very few exceptions, Muslims who have supported American actions against the Islamofascists have been vilified by “moderate” Muslims. These “moderates” have jeered and threatened and demeaned the few of their Muslim “brothers” and “sisters” with the courage to speak out.
It may very well be that the majority of Muslims just want to be left alone to live quiet lives. [Something I do not believe.] However, none of these so-called “moderates” have been speaking out against the death cultists murdering thousands in the name of their moon god-devil, Allah.
To these “good” Muslims I say a hearty: “Bravo Sierra.” You may quote me.
