Personal responsibility is an issue of pride in Japan. It is the exact opposite of attitudes of taking pride in how much you can get from the system that plagues liberal areas of this nation.

I'm walking on eggshells here and I hope those of you who can read code will get the message. Every intelligent person knows the difference between the behavior of the people in Japan in the aftermath of a unprecedented disaster and the behavior of those after Katrina. Nothing more need be said.

Any criticisms of the Democrats' socialist welfare state and its "base" denizens must be left unspoken.

My wife and I were talking about this today. I was commenting on how orderly and efficient the Japanese were in this time of disorder and grief. They weren’t on camera bitching and whining about how they weren’t getting what they deserved.

I don’t think his point was that Japanese are more civilized than blacks. His point was that Japanese are more civilized than Americans.
Besides, it was all Bush’s fault. That has been thoroughly established and is understood by the CNN audience.

Yeah, someone would have gotten trouble for that if they were quicker to react. I can definitely see that comment being called racist, especially if it were uttered on talk radio.

My husband pointed out, when we were watching coverage of the clean up at Christchurch, that it was the citizens who were operating the fire hoses to clean up the sidewalks. No one was sitting around waiting for the government to come and clean up the mess.

Japanese have a strong sense of national identity. One way or another, they show personal responsibility in times like this. We could learn a thing or three from the Japanese.
