Muammar Gaddafi's army won control of a strategic rebel-held Libyan town and laid siege to another as the revolutionary administration in Benghazi again appealed for foreign military help to prevent what it said would be the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people if the insurgents were to lose.
The rebels admitted they had retreated from the oil town of Ras Lanuf – captured a week ago – after two days of intense fighting and that the nearby town of Brega was now threatened.
The revolutionary army, in large part made up of inexperienced young volunteers, has been forced back by a sustained artillery, tank and air bombardment about 20 miles along the road to the rebel capital of Benghazi.
The head of Libya's revolutionary council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, claimed that if Gaddafi's forces were to reach the country's second-largest city it would result in "the death of half a million" people.

Yeah... and these rebels would have killed all the Khadaffi supporters if they had won. USA has no business getting involved in Libya.
Sounds like these rebels are getting desperate. Their only hope now is for a desperate PR campaign to spur US intervention (certainly the French and UK will not do it, in spite of all their chatter).
I fail to see how this conflict directly effects the USA.

I’d be interested to know how many of these rebels marched in the streets of Libya protesting intervention of the U. S. in Iraq and Afghanistan.
How many of them danced in the streets after 09/11, holding signs saying, “Death to America!”, “Death to Bush!”, “America is the Great Satan!”
How many of them held signs demanding the destruction of Israel?
You know, it’s my inclination to help my fellow man, and God only knows Khadaffi deserves to be destroyed, but what good will destroying this guy really do? If the same populace that danced in the streets after 09/11 gets it’s way, is that going to be any better than rule by Khadaffi?

No, though there are a number of indirect effects. Probably not large enough to force the hands of the US, but still reasons to weigh pros and cons.
However, in all likelihood the US (and NATO) will stay out of the conflict. The Arab League has just called for a NFZ, but it is still going to be difficult to get an approval in the UN. And neither the 0bama administration nor the Europeans will act without the go-ahead from the World Organization. (That in itself is something to ponder.)
So, I think any arguments for or against military intervention will be moot. It just won't happen.
Nevertheless, the US could act on the diplomatic front. The US has just upgraded its diplomatic ties to Syria - and if Libya under Ghadaffi is just a so, so enemy, then Syria is definitely in the pro-Iran, anti-US camp. Syria is supporting Ghadaffi miltarily, and the US could and should (IMHO) put pressure on Syria to desist. (BTW Syria, Algeria and Sudan was in the minority at the Arab League meeting re the NFZ.)

A truly just revolution is so rare as to be nearly non existent. Its only happened once that I can think of.

If the rebels win, there are about 200,000 Christians in Libya that will face the same fate - and that is simply a start.
If a Muslim kills a Muslim, perhaps they only get 36 virgins.
Perhaps there’s a sect differential too. If you’re a Shiite, you may get 76 virgins, and if you’re a Wahabbist, perhaps you get 53 and a half. This could get complicated.
It seems that for the moment, Israel isn’t the number one target for all Arabs. Each other is...
