Um, at :45 into the video, the outer structure left the face of the planet at supersonic speed. The shock wave went from 0 to 10,000 feet in about .2 seconds.

Thanks for that observation. So no building collapse. Building walls were annihilated and blown away in a massive explosion.

The more I watch the scenes of the devastation (tsunami), I am left wondering, “where are the people”?. Videos from the 2004 tsunami, it was chaos. These look eerily quiet. I heard that the residents of Japan only had a 15 minute warning.

“I think they add potassium iodide to salt.”

How much salt would equal a KI tablet?

I wouldn’t like to take that much salt at one time, but if you have to...?

From Wikipedia.

Cherenkov radiation is used to detect high-energy charged particles. In pool-type nuclear reactors, the intensity of Cherenkov radiation is related to the frequency of the fission events that produce high-energy electrons, and hence is a measure of the intensity of the reaction. Cherenkov radiation is also used to characterize the remaining radioactivity of spent fuel rods.

I never saw that post, do you have a link?

The only posting I saw giving distances were my own updates on the expanded evacuation radius around the 2nd site to 10km when it was announced.

at least on CNN from London, they are saying there remains a race against time because the reactor if it remains, still needs to be cooled. It is not clear at all taht the reactor containment gave out.

CNN has a guy on now being more dire BUT he is an anti nuclear activist, the CNN London anchor interrupted to emphasize that.

CNN now says evacuation zone is now 20 kilometers.

The wireless carriers could ping/text all their customers if they wanted, and count the no-replies as missing. I think we can assume 95% of adults there have a cell.
