This quake will have an impact on the Japanese economy for quite a while. Since Japan is a major trade partner for the US, the earthquake will have an impact on our exports to Japan and thus will impact our economy.
Economies in the Pacific Rim were already slowing because of high commodity prices. This earthquake, combined with what is going on the rest of the PacRim will slow down our “recovery”.
The good news (for the short term) is that Japan has shut down their refineries causing crude oil prices to go down. But when they restart those refineries and begin rebuilding...look out.

My son is stationed on Okinawa. He says the Japanese HATE the US Military. For them to ask for US military assistance is significant.
Sad to say, my son says the ill will tends to be mutual. We’ll see what effect this event has.
Of course, Japan, like every other foreign country, can rail about getting the US troops out but the minute that a natural disaster occurs, call Uncle Sugar.
