A tsunami watch is issued for the state of Hawaii effective at 7:56 p.m.
This after an estimated 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck near east coast of Honshu, Japan.
Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter.
An investigation is underway to determine if there is a tsunami threat to hawaii.
If tsunami waves impact Hawaii the estimated earliest arrival of the first tsunami wave is 2:59 a.m. Friday March 11.

CNN has better coverage. They are good for a few things.
Word just in, BBC was reporting in detail, and saw at the 2 am news. Reports range from 8.4 to 8.9 Richter. Off east coast of Japan. Fires reported in Tokyo. Tsunamis hitting east coast of Japan ranging from 14 to 18 feet. Saw TV of cars, trucks and boats being washed into the city. Haven’t heard if any tsunami danger for our west coast. Not long after a new moon, am not surprised.
Absolutely incredible video of tsunami moving into land and washing over land on Japan TV. Helicopter filming it. People unaware walking to their cars, stopped waiting at traffic lights as raging water just a block away and closing in.
$hitload of dead, they are predicting more quakes in the area soon.
20 foot tsunamis are estimated to hit Hawaii @3am local time. No one has a clue as to how many waves are coming. This is going to hit Russia and Korea hard.

Does Fox News have giant screen graphics blocking the view of what the camera man is filming. I dont watch fox breaking news because of that
News said the entire West Coast should stay away from the beach for the next few hours.
I was in one of those evacuations 20+ hrs ago with the kids on Oahu.
Took the car and headed up into the hills amongst the pineapples.
We were up there for hours before we were allowed to go back down to our hotel on the beach.
Now I live safely in LA, only 6 blocks from the beach.

It appears they are trying to cover over the stuff pasted up by the NHK feed they are using. CNN is doing the same thing.
