(JTA) - America opposes efforts to delegitimize Israel, President Obama told a 50-member delegation of Jewish leaders during a White House meeting.

Obama met Tuesday with members of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

A statement issued by the White House called the one-hour discussion "productive." The statement said that Obama "reiterated America's unshakable support for Israel's security, opposition to any efforts to delegitimitize it or single it out for criticism, and commitment to achieve a peace that will secure the future for Arabs and Israelis alike."

Obama, according to the statement, "praised the core of Jewish values of freedom and democracy, human rights, and tikkun olam (to repair the world)."

According to what I've been told by what I consider a reliable source, the term "tikkun olam" is hardly a "Jewish value." It appears merely once in the Talmud and is not mentioned in the Old Testament at all.

The literal translation from the Hebrew - which Obama got right - is "to repair the world." But that phrase is very vague and subject to whatever meaning and context the user wishes to apply it to.

The phrase has been coopted by many on the Jewish left (notably, onetime Clinton guru Michael Lerner) as a mantra to justify its support of every big government scheme imagined. Undoubtedly, Obama only learned about "tikkun olam" from a Jewish Left sychophant and is using it in this White House press release in a phony attempt to suggest that he understands "Jewish values."

Is he throwing a "bone" before making even a bigger anti-Israel step?

Based on his history, I wouldn't doubt it.

Tiqqun `olam is mentioned in the `Aleynu prayer which is recited three times every day. The full phrase is letaqqen `olam bemalkhut Shaqqay (to repair the world in the kingdom of the A-mighty). This can only be done by observing G-d's commandments and no other way.

It's amazing how outside the Bible Belt the Jews are seen only in light of the "Prophetic Judaism" of the Left. Down here we get out stereotype of the Jews from the Book of Joshua, and "democracy" wasn't big on their to-do list.

U.S. Supports Israel's Security, Obama Tells Jewish leaders*in whispers with fingers crossed* "only pre 1967 borders*" which were given to Israel in the first place!

Can someone please post a map or link of the Balfour lines in the sand, then white paper, then 1948 lines, then 1967 lines, then 1973 lines? I like the hypocrisy of those maps which tell an anti semitic story but have not been able to find or for some odd reason did not book mark

I thank you in advance should someone help me on this
