Hillary Clinton was defending her department budget in front of the U.S. Foreign Policy Priorities committee this morning on C-Span.
She says a major reason the State Department needs money is because "we are in an information war and we are losing that war."
Clinton said private media is not good enough to handle the job: "Our private media cannot fill that gap. Our private media, particularly cultural programming often works at counter purposes to what we truly are as Americans. I remember having an Afghan general tell me that the only thing he thought about Americans is that all the men wrestled and the women walked around in bikinis because the only TV he ever saw was Baywatch and World Wide Wrestling."
Meanwhile she says Al-Jazeera, CCTV and Russia Today are killing it: "Al Jazeera is winning. The Chinese have opened up a global English language and multi-language television network, the Russians have opened up an English language network. I've seen it in a couple of countries and it's quite instructive."

Although, to show how behind the times even the US Secretary of State is these stations have been around for years not just opened up.
It seems that the American news organisations are vying for the Sesame Street audience.
If your really want news and other good programming go to Al Jazeera or Russia Today if you can.
She’s still mad at the US media for abandoning her for BO in 2008.
She may be right, they are worth of sh## ever since they sided, aided and supported these criminals such as her kanckleness.
I watched the uprising in Egypt on Al Jazeera.
American media is like everything else run by liberals.
Hell, look at “SPIKE TV”. Television for male morons. It’s damned near insulting the juvenile programming on that station. Lowest common denominator.
So she’s calling for a PBS TV? No thanks. They’ve called “wolf” too many times. Each time we just get a new liability.
It sounds semi-reasonable, what she says here, unless you actually know the slightest history of these programs.
Defund PBS, and use that money, maybe. Make it unavailable in the US, so they aren’t tempted to make it a leftist propaganda box.
“I watched the uprising in Egypt on Al Jazeera.”
And you choose Gingrich over Palin. No shocker there!
It kind of sounds like she’s calling for a state run media. Which is pretty much what the mainstream media is already.
“the only thing he thought about Americans is that all the men wrestled and the women walked around in bikinis because the only TV he ever saw was Baywatch and World Wide Wrestling”
That’s not the result of miseducation, that’s the result of retardedness. How can we stop retardedness? Maybe we could put some kind of anti-retard drug in the Afghan water supply?
“Communist propaganda - yet even so it’s less biased than our networks”
Deep.
Seriously, with all due respect, ma'am, if that individual has risen to the rank of general and he is still not capable of objective analysis, I'd say he probably shouldn't be anywhere near things that can hurt himself or others.
Were that the highest degree of human thought possible, we in the Western World would think that all Arabs are vicious animals who simply rut those who are too weak and old to get away and kill each other for those mating rights or the local water hole. I would hope that's not the case.

Did you not know this?
Your other “choices” are terrible also. Did you pick them by emotion? WFT?
I’m not so sure that having foreigners think that all our women are like those on Baywatch and all our men are professional wrestlers is such a bad thing...
The funny part about defeated, alcoholic closeted-lesbian Communists like Hillary Rodham Clinton is that even through her Leninist goggles, she can see how weak and superficial American television has become.
Her answer, like every good Socialist, is Government-run Media, which, in her mind, will be more like the BBC, CBC or Al Jazeera and only echo the Government’s positions in high fidelty.
The naive part of Mrs. Clinton’s statement is that we already have a State-Controlled Leftist Media who can only spin the destructive results of her party’s policies for so long, as even they are firing reporters and laying off workers as the Old Media dies.
After so long, the lies and debts cannot accumulate anymore, the printing press must be shut off...and the Piper must be paid for unfunded liabilities promised for political gain and a porous border which costs us billions for the unwanted masses who swarm our shores.
And whose marxist party has had a choke hold on the entire industry, except for fox news, for the last few decades, Hillary???
And what do we have to show for it? It apparently isn't competitive in the world marketplace and it apparently isn't of high enough quality to be respected even by the likes of you.
Maybe the medium isn't the message after all.
Maybe the message is the message.
There’s not much to choose from.
