You are correct but if the probably for a good outcome were not high, we would not be hearing about it. I’m suprised the Brits are in the lead. I sort of thought it would be the Italians. However considering the previous negotiations the Brits may have someone who is trusted

The old man was putting out money and I have no doubt others are too. The question becomes, who’s money is likely to be chosen by the opposition leaders.

Fear or hope?

Similar thought on Italy. They are staying below the radar for the time being. I don't have to lecture you. But the potential outcome can look super good then go sour.
I do think it fair to say, NATO and the US have to still work out details. Who takes the lead and with what. Carriers come to mind. And obviously the Enterprise is sitting at the head of the Suez canal, with the Kersage at the lower end of the Red Sea. Guess over the next few days we shall see where this is all heading.
