Yup, I think you were trying to use a 10 year old.
The situation today in the middle east is NOT the same as Iran back then. The Shah was a major western ally. The US provide F14’s and all modern arms. Nobody was even thinking about Khomeini and what might happen if he took over. He was in France.

The point Sarah makes is that the use of military aviation against the civilian population is reprehensible. The US and NATO enforced a ‘no-fly’ zone over the sovereign state of Iraq. It is possible that this option should be considered now for Libya.

At least Sarah Palin is giving an accurate comparison of Gaddafi versus Mubarak. Remember, the US bombed Gaddafi’s palace and killed some of his family.

Where does Obama or for that matter any of the republicans stand on this??

You can think whatever you like Bill. I don’t really care. I will address your comments, but it’s no sweat off my back if you wish to live in the land of make believe.

Yes, the Shah was our ally. No Kadhaffi isn’t. The fact still remains, that the populace is trying to remove their leader on humanitarian grounds. That is exactly why the Iranian people rose up against the Shah. So there is a similarity here, even if you wish to deny it.

I’ll bet you a dollar right now, that three months from now Libya will have had some sort of popular religious leader come forward to form a new government, and much of the populace will be pleased as punch to see it.

That person will be anti-US, pro-Iran, and will install a theocratic government that will be closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The life of women in Libya will not be improved. In many instances they will be back to being treated like cattle, although they probably already were in most instances there already. We shall see.

I share Palin’s concern about the people of Libya. I do not however kid myself for a second that Libya is on the verge of some great awakening that will bring peace and prosperity to all of it’s citizens. In particular, little girls, young women, and adult women will be hard pressed to find any benefit in all this.

So no, I’m not in favor of making statements about Libya other than it’s leader has been, and will always be a consummate animal. The people of Libya that trash him now, are the same ones who danced in the streets when the Lockerby Bomber was let loose. And on 09/11, they were also dancing in the streets with glee.

It is my take that when all is said and done, this situation is going to turn out terrible for the Western nations. I’ll be damned if I am going to voice much of anything positive about the people of Libya.

I have no basis to. On general principles, I hate to see people oppressed like this. Then again, they thought it was a real hoot when 3,000 of our innocent people were slaughtered one morning in 2001.
