An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook up residents at the entrance to the Suez Canal early Monday morning, 48 hours before two Iranian ships, a frigate and a supply vessel, are expected to enter the canal.
The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research reported that tremors from the 3 a.m. quake lasted for 27 minutes, but caused no damage.

@3am most people are asleep. Most washing machines, AC units and other electric units are down to minimum requirement.
Water pressure in the system increases at the same time electric grids are at max capability containing unused capacity, regulating gas and more control mechanisms than most would ever care to consider.
0300 is the best time to stage an action.

Could it be this:
"And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them."
Also, Jesus often went out at that time (in the morning....a great while before day) to be alone and to pray.

The writer could be referring to this one:

2.7 minutes would be more believable.

The “doctor” ordered us to treat each other in a just manner; then allowed us to execute his Son for delivering the message without retribution... At that time... We have done worse on mass scale for long enough.
We know not this God we pretend to worship. What may manifest may not quite be what many expect. Time is a funny thing. Attention spans vary.

Most likely a poorly-written way of referring to the quake and its aftershocks. I’d be very surprised if it was 27 minutes of continuous trembling with no reported damage.

“, rather an aggravated slap where it hurts most.”
I’ve been getting those on a regular basis for the past few years!

I'm skeptical, too - but two things give me pause. One, I'm not sure how the network of sensors feeds in from that area of the world - I went to one of the Egypt scientific web sites, and in at least one zone, they still sneaker-net data on floppy from one area to another.
Also, here is at least
one other source of news discussing an earthquake in that area. I find it interesting because even though the timeframe is the same, the reported magnitude is much smaller - and it is from an Egyptian site that attaches no religious significance to the event.

Oh thanks...
I read it again and I think you are correct.
Aftershocks for 27 Minutes after a 5.9 earthquake (or 5.1 depending on whose report you read) would be within expectations.

I just know that often God will wake me up out of a sound sleep, Ill look at the clock and it will be 3 on the dot our within a couple of minutes. A few years ago I awakened at exactly 3:00 am, three nights in a row. It creeped me out. God, you say? Might be the other guy...

Genesis 12:3 is still very much in effect.

All I know is that the Lord is coming, and He will exact His punishment on the “non-believers.” In this instance, I believe that includes everyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus Christ.
But since I’m not one of His emissaries, and I can’t second guess Him, I’ll have to let His Judgement take place in His own time. “And eye for an eye,” and “What goes around, comes around.” That’s how I understand it.
