MADISON, Wis. (AP) - 1 of the 14 Democratic state senators that fled Wisconsin rather than vote on a bill taking away collective bargaining rights says he fears Republicans may find a way to vote on a key part of the measure without them.
Democratic state Sen. Jon Erpenbach told The Associated Press on Monday that Republicans could attempt to attach the part of the proposal taking away collective bargaining rights to an unrelated bill and pass it Tuesday.

The QEO law has been eliminated and teacher bargaining will revert back to the
previous arbitration laws, that have now been further softened, which facilitated large
salary settlements in years prior to the adoption of the QEO. Through research of
bargaining data, survey of human resource administrators, review of teacher arbitration
cases, and personal involvement in teacher negotiations, it has become evident that the
arbitration laws currently in the state statutes must be revised. This will prevent the higher
arbitration awards, or the potentially inflated ‘settled’ compensation as part of the
arbitration process, in favor of local teacher unions, while still providing a fair opportunity
for teacher unions to obtain reasonable salary settlements. Teacher arbitration laws have
had a relatively short but turbulent history in Wisconsin. The fact that the legislature had
even adopted the extremely restrictive QEO law is strong supporting evidence that changes
were needed and those changes have now been ignored.
To that end, the proposals contained in this study do provide a legitimate and
rational alternative

And the folks here are just amateurs.
Hey, I’m with you totally on the federal reserve and Bernanke on what they’ve done to the dollar and causing higher food and gas prices. That is another battle that needs to be joined too. But let’s take care of Wisconsin first and then move on. There are too many fires to put out simultaneously.
Now, a Democrat Texas State Senator has stepped into the controversy, with some advice to fleeing Dems in Wisconsin. From HuffPo "Texas Dems To Fleeing Wisconsin Lawmakers: 'Call Your Spouses For Conjugal Visits'":
"If you are going to be out more than two weeks call your spouse for conjugal visits," explained Texas Democrat Leticia Van de Putte, who, back in 2003, was one of 11 state senators who fled to New Mexico in order to stall Republican redistricting plans. "After two weeks -- and most of my colleagues are men -- I said get their wives here and quick because you are under intense stress."
The Republicans need to start taking up majority vote bills that are pet-causes for Democrats in their districts and make them all fail by one vote.
That is great outside the box thinking which avoids some pitfalls of the reverse. If Dem desired legislation fails it isn’t as if they could go to court about it or say it was somehow illegal since the result would be nonaction. At least it would SEEM so. ‘Course with crazy Dem “logic” one never knows.
As if the union leaders aren’t rich crooks too. Wake up and smell the coffee!
Oh, you mean they may find a back door way to get the bill passed like the Dems did in Congress to pass the Health Care?
If the Dens play by those rules they also can die by the same rules.

Hell, two more weeks and they'll be crawling back into WI.
The unions don't have the support of the public and they know it.
Then, they need to ask a simple question: what the heck is wrong with asking these employees to bargain with their BOSSES--namely the taxpayers of the country/state/county/city/town they work for? As it stands now, it is their fellow government workers who do the bargaining, and they have come to believe, and convince others, that the money they are bargaining over belongs to "the government".
But--duh!--it is the taxpayers who are the real employers, and who more than they should have the RIGHT to be included in the collective bargaining process?
How about one of the republicans switches parties and becomes a dem for the day..?

Good idea. If the Republicans attach the bill to end collective bargaining to a non fiscal bill and pass it without a quorum, then the ball is in the Dem court to institute a lawsuit to overturn it as it will remain law until it is contested legally. If the Dems in the legislature insist on staying in Illinois after that to thwart a vote on the fiscal issue, then the Republicans can give them a week to get back and if they do not then advise that enough teachers will be fired to make up for the failure to pass the fiscal part of the bill requiring them to contribute to their pensions and paying more for their health care benefits. A little hardball is in order.
I know we on Free Republic act as though we originated this idea, but it’s kind of obvious and you KNOW the (R)s have at least considered it.

I may be wrong, but I understand the WI senate and assembly need a quarum to vote on fiscal legislation, but only a simple majority for other legislation. The WI senate has stated it will be back in session tuesday to address other matters.
If so, why can’t they strip out the collective bargaining portion of the contested legislation and vote on it as a stand-alone bill? Would it qualify as a non fiscal bill?

In 2008 if we took to a debt workout plan instead of the BenBamaBushplan of saving wall street the union thugs would have seen the light, but NO with the flood the world with funny money everyone on Planet America thinks austerity is for someone else. Besides education and the unions who racketeer within it are relics, and nowadays serve as babysitters.
