"McCain was not born on US soil."

Neither was George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, John Jay, and a few other folk.

What is your point?

Apparently you’ve never read The Constitution.

Article II Section 1 Paragraph 5

Radix, those born before the adoption of the Constitution were grandfathered in. It’s those who were born later who were obligated to the ‘natural born’ requirement.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

All those you name were citizens at the time of the adoption of the constitution. They could not have been natural born citizens. There were no natural born citizens until children were born after the adoption of the constitution, that is why the document is worded the way it is. Read it. No qualified natural born citizens existed until thirty five years after the formation of the United States of America under the constitution so an exemption was written to allow those who were citizens at the adoption of the constitution to serve as commander in chief.

Every president was either covered by “The Grandfather Clause”, or had parents who were citizens, natural born or naturalized. This has been covered so many times that I will point to the excellent article by Mario Apuzzo, “The Citizenship Status of Our 44 Presidents” here
http://puzo1.blogspot.com/ Mr Apuzzo’s article is so well written that any who are really interested - not trolls - will take the trouble to read his essay.

Of course, few realized that Chester Arthur was born to a British subject because Arthur, like Obama, hid all his personal papers, and had them burned just before he died. He also behaved like Obama in having the help of the print media which pointed energetically to Chester's possible Canadian birth, as well as several scenarios for his mother. Chester almost never replied, except to lie about his mother's age and point to another state to mislead. He also withheld his own birth certificate, but had it all the time.

With the exception of Arthur and Obama, every president was constitutionally eligible, “born on our soil of parents who were its citizens” as Vattel and Chief Justice Marshall put it.
