Smart politics, both for her own sake and for the partys sake, from todays Q&A on Long Island. Even lefties like Jonathan Capehart are praising her for her answer. The reason youre seeing so many prominent Republicans pressed on Birtherism the past few days is because of this PPP poll from Tuesday claiming that a clear majority of the partys primary voters (51 percent) dont think Obama was born in the U.S. Weigels read on that is correct, I think: To some extent the issues become a proxy for ideology, with more conservative voters who are already deeply suspicious of The Ones intentions more likely to believe that he was born abroad. The peril for Palin in that poll is that her favorables were unusually high among Birthers at 83 percent (almost 20 points more than Huckabee), which stands to reason under Weigels theory since shes perceived as the most conservative candidate in the race. Hence the need today to set the record straight about her own views and to steer Birthers among the base away from this issue. She did a nice job, much clearer than she was when she addressed this subject once before. And shes quite right, needless to say, about the issue being a distraction. Even if youre inclined to believe that theres funny business surrounding The Ones long-form birth certificate, theres virtually no way to prove it. His file will stay closed as long as he wants it closed, so absent a confession from the Hawaii records department that its all a big conspiracy, youre pumping a dry well. Like Palin says, better to focus on the economy (and, if youre feeling bold, Obamas inexcusable gutlessness on entitlements) than to keep barking up this tree.

Pleasant dreams.
Good grief, don’t act like a retard.
the experiment worked perfectly. The Media would swoop down like a ton of bricks on someone who answered in such a way. EXACTLY like they are swooping down now on Michele as we speak. To the left, denying Obama is eligible is the equivalent of being a holocaust denier, in their own sick little minds. Same with being a global warming denier.
Michele played it perfectly. Without saying much of anything, she fanned the flames for us.
Depends on the circles one is in. In her world of Congress, she is absolutely correct. The capons are afraid to touch it.
Actually, it is not smart for Bauchmann to let this problem dangle while claiming to be the heroine of the constitution. It makes her look like she’s part of the “bi-partisan criminal enterprise in DC.
She ought to say that Obama should stop acting like a baby, hiding his school, birth, and medical records and clear up the questions voters have a right and responsibility to ask.
But maybe she can’t say because she was involved in the conspiracy to commit Treason by sitting in a meeting where the GOP leadership hatched a plan to cover-up the crime.
The media will go bonkers if she spoke from common sense, but Americans know there are unanswered questions and see nothing odd about The One coming clean. Even the ones who believe him think it is odd that he’s hidden all his records.
I question Mrs. Palin’s honesty...
LOL!
Slick, you keep digging the hole you have dug yourself in tonight, your PDS friends will need at least 100 feet of rope to try and extricate your silly a$$.
Bachmann is slyly encouraging birthers on.
Well, if you say so MENSA. The media today had a couple of pieces how Palin dissed the birthers. And dozens of pieces on how Bachmann threw them a bone. Including the USA Today and WSJ. ROFL
Of course, it sucks to be you, seeing Palin actaully throw the birthers under the bus, and therefore you need to pretend Bachmann did the same thing.
Obama is illegitimate because our framers required that our president have inherited allegiance from his citizen parents. It is our common law, never doubted, and has been cited by more than a dozen justices of the supreme court. Birth certificates are like the auto registration, perhaps a misdemeanor, but the issue was potentially lethal driving which put citizens at risk.
This thread appears mostly a playground for trolls, though trolls who may be interested in diluting any serious discussion of the real issue. It was probably an oversight to assume that the original topic, words attributed to Palin, are even legitimate.
Still, you are correct. Here is just a little bit of truth, but truth for which you can find, even without leaving Free Republic, a dozen other unarguable statements by our framers and founders expressing the same clear understanding. Our framers required that our president be the child of citizens, and born on our soil. They allowed naturalized citizens into every other position in our government. The English allowed only natural born subjects into Parliament. Here is the definition, from Chief Justice Morrison Waite, after the 14th Amendment (which made no difference), in Minor v. Happersett (1874):
“The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.”
Notice that Stephanopolis and McDonald and others always ask about birth certificates. Read Morrison Waite carefully, and it is easy to see what questions they don't want you to think about. Obama Jr was not born of parents who were are citizens. Only his mother was. He is patently ineligible to be president. The Ruling Class fears the civil unrest which would result from ruling him. They cannot legally admit to be ignoring the Constitution. They have made a cost-benefit analysis that more damage would result from exposing and removing him. It is a serious problem, but the questions are completely legitimate.
Actually, there was a thread (today?) that about 70% of Repubs either think he was not born here, or have serious doubts.

Nope. Just someone smart enough not to throw us under the bus.
I like #1 Palin, #2 Bachmann and #3 DeMint, but am greatly disappointed in what all 3 had to say on the *Birther* issue (and I am a *Birther*).
They are the best I can hope for in the upcoming election, I will probably bite the bullet on their (all 3) *Birther* statements.
Let the best person win the nomination, I hope it's Palin, but will just as happily vote for Bachmann or DeMint if they win it.
Sorry sport, I am not a crackpot PDSer with underlying mental and emotional issues.
Sorry, Palin and DeMint (who is my favorite to run, btw) both threw the birthers under the bus. Bachmann has not. You are interpreting what she said, and more importantly, what she refused to say, far different than the media, left, right and center. Is she a birther? No. Has she tossed us under the bus? Nope.
No need to question, when the lies are so obvious!
Worst kept "secret", EVER!
Somehow political correctness doesn do it for me, whether it comes from Palin, Bachmann or any other politician. Their reply denigrates the honesty, openness and intelligence of millions of loyal, rational and logical USA citizens. For the time being I shall pass on all of them now. Let them explain their correctness to Lt. Col.Lakin.
