FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Representative John Ragan Leads Constitutional Amendment to Fight ObamaCare

Conservative Leader Joins Chairman of the Health Committee in Authoring Amendment to Protect Individual Rights from Federal Power Grab

(February 17, 2011, NASHVILLE) – Representative John Ragan (R-Oak Ridge) unveiled new a new constitutional amendment today aimed at protecting Tennesseans from the mandates contained in last year’s federal health takeover.

The amendment, House Joint Resolution 32, declares that every person has the right to choose or decline any mode of securing health care services without penalty or threat of penalty from the federal government or any Tennessee public official.

Rep. Ragan said, “Voters across Tennessee and the nation sent a loud message last November: End the ridiculous wasteful spending and stop reaching into our everyday lives. Tennesseans expect us, as legislators, to stand up against Washington. I believe this constitutional amendment is a strong first step towards pushing back against a federal government that has grown far out of touch with its citizens, particularly in the area of healthcare.”

Ragan was joined by Representatives Casada (R-Franklin), Eldridge (R-Jackson), Cobb (R-Spring City), Womick (R-Rockvale), Halford (R-Dyer), Butt (R-Columbia), Shipley (R-Kingsport), Rich (R-Somerville), Sexton (R-Crossville), Ryan Williams (R-Cookeville), Sargent (R-Franklin), Hurley (R-Lenoir City), Evans (R-Greenbriar), Hensley (R-Hohenwald), Floyd (R-Chattanooga), Faison (R-Cosby), Holt (R-Dresden), Marsh (R-Shelbyville), Pody (R-Lebanon), Maggart (R-Hendersonville), Niceley (R-Knoxville), Carr (R-Lascassas), Watson (R-Cleveland), Hill (R-Jonesborough), Dean (R-East Ridge), Gotto (R-Hermitage), Elam (R-Mount Juliet), Sparks (R-Smyrna), Alexander (R-Winchester), and Forgety (R-Athens) in introducing this constitutional amendment.

Representative Glen Casada, chairman of the House Health & Human Resources Committee, remarked, “While I am proud of the efforts we are seeing in Washington to repeal and defund ObamaCare, I believe the strongest actions against this intrusive law can be taken at the State level.” He continued, “Every Tennessean has the right to determine the scope of their health insurance needs. The last thing we need is another bloated federal program breathing down our necks and becoming a poster child for everything that is wrong with the federal government.”

It is SO nice to have David Alexander representing us now rather than George Fraley. Fraley wouldn’t have gone along with this at all.
